Job Description

Academy Camps is an overnight sports-specific sleepaway experience on the campus of Suffield Academy in Northern Connecticut and we're looking for an experienced Athletic Trainer for our 2024 summer session. 

Who we are
In short, Academy Camps is a modern approach to the sports camp experience. We offer 1- and 2-week sessions for Boys & Girls age 10 - 15 interested in lacrosse, basketball, soccer or tennis. Our campers choose one of our four "Academy Sports" and receive two intensive training sessions per day with our high-performance coaching staff. The remainder of their schedule has a focus on Performance, Wellness, Mindset and Leadership with a solid dose of traditional sleepaway camp activities. We have a total of three 2-week sessions that run from June 23rd to August 2nd. 

The position
The Academy Camps Athletic Trainer oversees the day-to-day management of the athletic training needs of the camp and works alongside camp directors, coaches, counselors, and medical staff to proactively support youth athletes' injury and injury prevention needs. The Athletic Trainer will develop and implement systematic and individualized rehabilitation programs for athletes to return safely to activities and training sessions. The Trainer will work out of the campus athletic department's training room facility & move around the sports campus throughout the day to monitor athlete well-being, to provide first aid, or emergency injury care. 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Maintain records and write reports on injuries and treatment programs
  • Maintain training room resources & supplies within budget
  • Interact with parents, campers, staff and host location as needed


Your Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Qualifications:  
  • Certified Athletic Trainer
  • Licensed in CT
  • Bachelor’s degree/ Master of Science 
  • CPR/AED Certified
  • Ability to communicate and work within a team environment
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing
  • Ability to communicate with parents 
  • Strong relationship skills with children and youth/teenagers
  • Ability to assess camper & staff sports health & safety needs, enforce appropriate safety regulations and emergency procedures. 
  • The athletic trainer works within our culture of team-players, inclusivity, and growth mindset.

Expectations, Compensation, and Benefits
  • Available and on-site for the dates of your session(s), staff orientation, and post-camp:
    • Staff Orientation: June 16 - 22
    • Session 1: June 23 - July 5
    • Session 2: July 6 - 19
    • Session 3: July 20 - August 2
    • Post-camp: August 2 - 3
  • Room & Board included, but optional. Opportunity to stay on campus, commute daily, or a mix of the two. Potential to be on staff for 1, 2, or all 3 sessions. Meals provided are highly rated by athletes as well as staff. Our dining hall can handle all common food allergies and provides dairy-free, gluten-free, and vegetarian food options at every meal.
  • The training team will consist of multiple trainers, two trainers per morning shift and one per evening shift. The schedule includes two shifts: 8:30am-3pm and 2pm-9pm.
  • The AC compensation package is competitive and is commensurate with skills and experience. Compensation for a full summer commitment is $7,200, includes room and board (with the option to commute daily), and offers the opportunity to grow with Academy Camps as our presence expands regionally and nationally.
