Position Overview

The Ropes Specialist is responsible for leading and supervising campers on Tamarack Day Camp’s ropes and challenge course. This role focuses on safety, skill instruction, teamwork, and confidence building. The specialist creates a structured, engaging environment while ensuring all activities follow established safety protocols.

Key Responsibilities

  • Instruct and supervise campers on low ropes and challenge course activities

  • Enforce all safety rules, spotting techniques, and equipment checks

  • Properly set up, break down, and maintain ropes course equipment daily

  • Lead team-building and problem-solving initiatives appropriate to each age group

  • Actively engage and motivate campers while maintaining control of the group

  • Communicate clearly with campers, counselors, and supervisors

  • Monitor camper behavior and address issues calmly and professionally

  • Respond appropriately to emergencies and follow camp safety procedures

  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe ropes area

Qualifications

  • Experience with ropes courses, outdoor education, or challenge programs preferred

  • Strong leadership and group management skills

  • Ability to clearly explain instructions and safety expectations

  • Comfortable working at heights and in outdoor environments

  • Ability to remain calm, alert, and decisive in all situations

  • Must be dependable and professional

Certifications

  • Ropes or challenge course certification preferred

  • Willingness to complete Tamarack Day Camp–required training prior to camp

Schedule & Commitment

  • Full summer availability required

  • Camp runs Monday through Friday, 8:30 AM – 4:00 PM

  • Attendance required for staff orientation and training days
