Make a Difference This Summer at Tamarack Day Camp!
Do you love the outdoors, working with kids, and teaching hands-on skills? Tamarack Day Camp is seeking enthusiastic Nature & Outdoor Experience Specialists to lead campers in exploring, learning, and connecting with the natural world. This role is ideal for individuals who enjoy teaching environmental awareness, outdoor skills, and adventure-based learning in a fun and supportive camp setting.
Tamarack Day Camp is located in Randolph, New Jersey and serves children ages 3–15. Camp runs Monday through Friday, June 29 through August 21, and all 39 days of camp are required for employment.
Position Overview
We are hiring for two distinct but related roles within our outdoor program. Applicants may be considered for one or both based on experience.
Nature Specialist (Younger Campers)
Focuses on introducing younger campers to nature through age-appropriate exploration, curiosity, and discovery.
Outdoor Experience Specialist (Older Campers)
Focuses on more advanced outdoor education, survival concepts, and adventure-based skills for older campers.
Responsibilities – Nature Specialist (Younger Campers)
Lead engaging, hands-on nature activities for younger campers
Teach basic outdoor concepts such as plants, animals, insects, weather, and ecosystems
Encourage curiosity, respect for nature, and environmental awareness
Use games, crafts, and guided exploration to make learning fun and accessible
Create a safe, nurturing, and positive learning environment
Collaborate with counselors to support camper engagement and smooth transitions
Responsibilities – Outdoor Experience Specialist (Older Campers)
Teach advanced outdoor and survival skills appropriate for older campers
Lead activities focused on navigation basics, shelter building, fire safety concepts, knots, teamwork, and problem-solving
Introduce campers to outdoor preparedness, safety, and leadership skills
Plan structured, challenge-based activities that build confidence and independence
Model responsible outdoor behavior and reinforce safety at all times
Work closely with camp leadership to align programming with camp goals
Shared Responsibilities
Maintain a safe, organized, and engaging activity area
Adapt activities for different ages, abilities, and group sizes
Manage camper behavior while keeping a positive and supportive tone
Communicate effectively with counselors and supervisors
Serve as a positive role model and uphold Tamarack’s core values
Qualifications
Experience in nature education, outdoor recreation, environmental studies, scouting, camping, or outdoor leadership preferred
Comfort working with children ages 3–15
Strong communication and group management skills
Energetic, responsible, and enthusiastic about outdoor education
Ability to commit to the full camp season
Schedule & Compensation
Camp runs Monday through Friday, 8:30 AM–4:00 PM
No weekends
Additional paid opportunities may be available
Transportation to camp may be possible
