Help Keep Summer Safe and Fun
Tamarack Day Camp is seeking responsible, alert, and safety-focused Lifeguards to join our aquatics team. Lifeguards play a critical role in ensuring a safe, positive, and enjoyable swimming experience for campers and staff while maintaining the highest standards of pool safety and professionalism.
This position is ideal for individuals who are confident swimmers, attentive, and committed to creating a safe and supportive camp environment.
Position Overview
Lifeguards are responsible for supervising all pool and waterfront activities, enforcing safety rules, and responding quickly and effectively to any emergencies. Lifeguards work closely with the Aquatics Director, counselors, and specialists to ensure smooth and well-organized swim periods.
Key Responsibilities
- Actively monitor swimmers during all swim periods and aquatic activities
- Enforce all pool rules, safety procedures, and camp policies consistently
- Perform rescues and administer first aid or CPR when necessary
- Conduct swimmer supervision, head counts, and zone coverage
- Assist with swim lesson support and camper transitions
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe pool area
- Inspect pool equipment and report any safety concerns immediately
- Communicate clearly with aquatics staff, counselors, and supervisors
- Serve as a positive role model for campers and staff
- Participate in lifeguard trainings, in-services, and staff meetings
Qualifications
- Current lifeguard certification required (Red Cross or equivalent - We pay to certify you!)
- CPR, First Aid, and AED certification required
- Strong swimming ability and comfort supervising large groups of children
- Ability to remain alert, calm, and focused in a fast-paced environment
- Responsible, reliable, and punctual
- Must be able to commit to the full camp summer
- Previous camp or pool experience preferred
