Lead Adventure on the Water This Summer
Tamarack Day Camp is seeking responsible, energetic, and safety-focused Boating & Fishing Specialists to join our summer team. This role is ideal for individuals who enjoy outdoor recreation, working with children, and teaching hands-on skills in a fun and structured camp environment.
As a Boating & Fishing Specialist, you will oversee waterfront activities, teach basic boating and fishing skills, and ensure a safe, engaging experience for campers of all ages.
Position Overview
The Boating & Fishing Specialist is responsible for planning and leading age-appropriate boating and fishing activities while maintaining strict safety standards. Specialists work closely with counselors, lifeguards, and supervisors to provide high-quality instruction and supervision during all waterfront programs.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and lead structured boating and fishing activities for campers ages 5–15
- Teach basic boating skills, water safety, casting techniques, knot tying, and fish identification
- Ensure all safety protocols and waterfront procedures are followed at all times
- Maintain close supervision of campers during all water-based activities
- Inspect and properly care for boats, fishing equipment, life jackets, and safety gear
- Collaborate with counselors to support camper engagement, behavior management, and smooth transitions
- Assist with special events, waterfront programming, and themed camp activities
- Model responsible behavior and serve as a positive role model for campers and staff
- Participate in staff training, meetings, and camp-wide events as required
Qualifications
- Experience with boating and/or fishing is required
- Comfortable working in and around the water
- Must obtain lifeguard certification prior to the start of camp (certification options provided by Tamarack, we will certify you)
- Experience working with children in a camp or recreational setting preferred
- Strong communication skills and a calm, safety-first mindset
- Reliable, punctual, and able to work as part of a team
- Must be able to commit to the full camp summer
