Cooking Specialist – Tamarack Day Camp (Summer 2026)

Location: Tamarack Day Camp – Randolph, NJ
Dates: June 29 – August 21, 2026 (39 camp days)
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:30 AM – 4:00 PM
Training: Mandatory staff orientation and training sessions in June

Position Overview

Tamarack Day Camp is seeking a Cooking Specialist to lead fun, safe, and engaging cooking activities for campers ages 4–14. This role focuses on creating a positive, hands-on environment where campers can explore basic cooking skills, try new foods, and enjoy the process of making simple recipes.

This position is ideal for someone who enjoys working with children and can balance creativity with structure and safety.

Responsibilities

  •  Plan and lead age-appropriate cooking activities for multiple camper groups throughout the day 
  •  Prepare all materials and ingredients in advance of each session 
  •  Maintain a clean, organized, and safe cooking space at all times 
  •  Ensure proper food handling, hygiene, and allergy awareness protocols are followed 
  •  Adapt activities based on age group and skill level (Pre-K through Teen) 
  •  Keep activities engaging, efficient, and aligned with camp scheduling 
  •  Work collaboratively with group counselors and leadership staff 
  •  Manage setup and cleanup between periods 
Program Expectations

  •  Activities are simple, fun, and camp-appropriate (e.g., chocolate-dipped snacks, smoothies/slushies, basic baking, no complex recipes) 
  •  Focus is on participation and experience, not technical culinary instruction 
  •  Ability to run multiple sessions per day with different groups 
  •  Maintain consistency and structure across all groups 
Qualifications

  •  Experience working with children in a camp, school, or similar setting preferred 
  •  Basic cooking or food preparation experience required 
  •  Strong organization and time management skills 
  •  Ability to lead groups, give clear instructions, and maintain control of a space 
  •  Positive attitude, reliability, and energy throughout the camp day 
Requirements

  •  Full summer availability is required (all 39 days) 
  •  Attendance at all required June training sessions 
  •  Ability to work outdoors and remain active throughout the day
