The Student Life Manager is responsible for the administration, supervision, programming initiatives, and student conduct for IMG Academy student-athletes in their assigned residence hall. Responsibilities include supervision of professional Residential Mentor staff, facilities and operations management, educational and social programming, conduct management, and on-call emergency response. The Student Life Manager provides direction and leadership for the dormitory staff while promoting a safe, secure, and healthy environment for student-athlete and staff development.

 

Each manager will be responsible for leading and specializing in an additional area of focus such as wellness, discipline, conduct or health & safety.

 

 

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

 

Staff Supervision and Program Administration

 

  • Oversee the supervision and evaluation of dormitory staff to ensure that company policies, procedures and code of conduct are being maintained for both students and staff.
  • Serve as a responsible adult presence, providing guidance and support in the residence halls for staff and student-athletes
  • Lead the implementation and facilitation of training programs for temporary/part-time/full time staff
  • Organize shift workflow to ensure operations are completed efficiently.
  • Work with leadership on hiring and training summer camp staff members and facilitating ongoing meetings and necessary training to keep staff informed.
  • Coordinate academy/summer camp operations in collaboration with camp director and sport camp directors with oversight on day-to-day camp operations for the Student Life team to manage the overall health, safety, welfare, and enjoyment of the campers.
  • Work with campus partners to create dynamic experience and opportunities for camp participants.
  • Assist with interviewing and selecting Residential Mentor staff.
  • Work collaboratively with Student Life management on the development and administration of the Residential Life Curriculum.
  • Ensure that programming requirements are being met
  • Each manager will be responsible for overseeing an additional area of focus such as wellness, discipline, conduct or health & safety.
  • Prioritize and manage multiple projects, diligently track and meet deadlines that affect students and staff
  • Collaborate with leadership to analyze and implement policies and procedures to maximize performance and customer service. 
  • Partner and communicate with Student Life leadership to ensure consistency across the department.

 

Operations

 

  • Monitor and oversee Student Life staff ensuring student-athletes are safe and secure in residence halls.
  • Evaluate, oversee and maintain the residential hall providing a safe, secure and healthy living environment.
  • Participate in revising and updating the Student Handbook
  • Coordinate with campus safety and security staff to ensure the security of students and residence halls
  • Monitor housing process including check in/out, early arrivals and opening/closing of residence halls
  • Oversee and coordinate the scheduling of 3 separate shifts
  • Update and maintain appropriate student databases
  • Lead, contribute and follow up on ideas/initiatives in department meetings
  • Lead general planning for Academy and summer camp programs and work with leadership to develop camp policies and procedures.

 

Communication

 

  • Collaborate and build relationships with departments including sports, academics and health services.
  • Communicate openly and regularly with dormitory leadership regarding student-athletes’ development.
  • Serve as primary contact for team/group and camp participants and their families.
  • Lead and communicate emergency response and crisis management plans for various situations including weather, lockdown, student illness, injury, etc.
  • Oversee orientation and acclimation of student-athletes to campus life.
  • Communicate and enforce appropriate disciplinary actions for violations.
  • Communicate and follow up on conduct expectations of student life staff.
  • Promptly address escalated student and parent concerns.
  • Adhere to all company policies, procedures and business ethic codes
  • Other duties as assigned

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS

 

Required

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, Counseling or related area, or equivalent work experience.
  • Must have at least 2 years’ experience working in a formal setting with students grades 6 to 12.
  • Must have at least 1 year experience managing a team in a customer service setting
  • Experience in training, selection, supervision, programming and evaluation of staff
  • Experience with residential life, summer camps, secondary school or boarding school
  • Must possess good judgment and sensitivity relating to students of various backgrounds.
  • Excellent guest service skills.
  • Experience in a high-pressure, academic/performance setting.
  • Ability to handle and deescalate challenging situations professionally and with sensitivity.
  • Highly organized with the ability to juggle multiple projects.
  • A superior work ethic.
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize in a fast-paced setting
  • Proven track record of working collaboratively with colleagues.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient with computer and web applications.

 

Preferred

 

  • Master’s degree in Education, Counseling or related field, or equivalent
  • Experience in counseling, crisis response and mediation.
  • Bilingual.
  • First Aid and CPR Certification.
  • Experience as collegiate student-athlete
  • Experience in boarding school setting.

 

Physical Demands and Work Environment

 

  • Ability to lift, move, push and pull equipment or boxes up to 40lbs.
  • Must be able to move around residence hall, including stairs
  • Ability to spend long periods of time on their feet, walking, standing, etc.
  • Ability to work flexible hours to include nights, weekends and holidays is required
  • Will be required to be on call overnight per schedule
