Position Summary
The Director, Campus Technology serves as the primary technology leader and on-site point of contact for IMG Academy's Bradenton, Florida campus, leading IT Engineering and IT Support teams, closely coordinating with the Solutions Architecture and Data functions. Reporting to the VP Information Technology, the role manages the operations, security, and evolution of all campus technology delivery, from infrastructure and networking to support for employees, student-athletes, parents, and visitors.
As the “single front door” for campus technology, you will provide exceptional service to campus while intelligently routing requests to the appropriate Technology functions: IT Engineering, IT Support, Solutions Architecture, and Data. You will work closely with campus leadership, department heads, and end-users to proactively understand gaps and opportunities, identify needs, and design solutions in partnership with IT, Solutions Architects, and Data professionals. This role requires collaboration across organizational boundaries—partnering with Corporate Infrastructure, InfoSec, and other teams to ensure privacy and regulatory compliance while delivering practical solutions that meet campus needs.
This is not just a technical operations role; it is a cultural transformation opportunity. You will evolve our technology service model from an historically relationship-driven, ad-hoc approach toward a proactive, systematic framework that balances responsiveness with sustainability. We are looking for a patient and resilient technical leader who excels at relationship-building and stakeholder education as much as technical execution. This role is an opportunity for a servant-leader to transform the technology landscape at a world-class institution, building a foundation of operational excellence while fostering a new culture of strategic partnership.
Key Responsibilities
Stakeholder Engagement & Transformation (The "Single Front Door")
- Serve as the primary technology partner and point of contact for campus leadership, department heads, faculty, coaches, and staff, translating needs into the appropriate technical workstream.
- Build and maintain strong working relationships across campus functions (Academics, Athletics, Athletic & Personal Development, Student Life, Campus Operations).
- Act as the central technology intake point, providing “Call the Ball” confidence while routing requests to appropriate teams (IT Engineering, IT Support, Solutions Architecture, or Data).
- Partner closely with the Campus Solutions Architect and team on project intake, scoping, and prioritization, ensuring seamless handoffs and clear ownership throughout delivery.
- Coordinate with Data leadership and team to ensure campus needs are systematically addressed.
- Champion a new, integrated way of working: educate leaders on the value of systematic processes and cross-functional planning while maintaining responsive, relationship-driven service they expect.
- Translate complex technical concepts into business context; shield stakeholders from unnecessary complexity while ensuring transparency and setting appropriate expectations
Team Leadership & Operational Excellence (Foundation-Builder)
- Establish and maintain clear roadmaps for campus infrastructure, networking, and technology services, communicating progress and priorities transparently to stakeholders and teams.
- Lead, mentor, and develop a team of ~10+ IT professionals across IT Engineering and IT Support, including one IT Support Supervisor and several senior individual contributor engineers.
- Foster a culture of collaboration, accountability, innovation, purpose, and high performance; establish clear goals, performance metrics, and career development paths.
- Provide thoughtful, timely coaching and feedback to individual contributors, supporting career development and growing the technical talent base through mentorship and skill development.
- Build esprit de corps across campus IT teams, Solutions Architecture and Data teams, while strengthening collaboration with remote L2 Support and Corporate IT Engineering resources.
- Drive adoption of intake and work management processes (Jira for projects, ZenDesk for support), making these tools the path of least resistance while remaining responsive to urgent needs.
- Establish and monitor service level expectations and performance metrics across support and engineering functions, implementing continuous improvement where needed.
- Develop team capability and technical depth, reducing dependency on any single individual.
Campus Infrastructure & Systems Management (Technical Execution)
- Campus Physical Infrastructure: Own the implementation, configuration, and maintenance of campus technology infrastructure, including Cisco and Meraki networking equipment, Nutanix hyperconverged infrastructure, physical access control, POS and signage systems, office audio-visual systems, specialty athletic performance systems, and 1,000+ corporate-owned endpoints.
- Cloud & Enterprise Systems: Partner with Corporate IT Engineering to manage campus-specific configurations and support for Okta, Zoom, Azure AD, Exchange Online, Intune, Jamf, Defender, SharePoint Online, OneDrive for Business, Microsoft Teams, and related services.
- Technology Delivery: Ensure seamless provisioning and support of hardware, software, and peripherals to employees, student-athletes, parents, and visitors.
- User Experience: Maintain high service quality and rapid response to technology escalations while building sustainable support processes for in-person (default), remote, and BYOD scenarios. Security & Compliance: Partner with InfoSec team to ensure campus systems comply with data security, privacy, and GRC standards; stay current with industry best practices and emerging threats.
Strategic Planning & Cross-Functional Coordination
- Lead campus IT architecture decisions and campus technology roadmap planning, ensuring investments are cost-effective, secure, scalable, and aligned with business priorities.
- Collaborate with Campus Operations and Campus Safety teams to ensure mission-critical business processes are supported by highly available, observable and fit-for-purpose technology systems.
- Collaborate with ‘Core 5’ functions (Academics, Athletics, Customer Experience, Athletic & Personal Development, and Student Life) to ensure ‘run the business’ solutions are successfully implemented.
- Collaborate with Solutions Architecture and Data teams on ‘grow the business’ scoping and project delivery, providing engineering resources and infrastructure support as needed.
- Provide budget input for campus IT operations and capital projects; manage vendor relationships for campus-specific technology needs in partnership with VP Information Technology, CIO and CTO.
- Anticipate future technology needs based on enrollment trends, program expansion, facility growth, and new ‘Core 5’ capability and capacity requirements, while advising leaders on innovation and risk.
Who You Are
- Pragmatic System-Builder: Demonstrated experience transforming a reactive IT environment into a proactive one by implementing lightweight, data-driven, effective operational processes.
- Servant-Leader Educator: A natural teacher and mentor with a passion for developing technical talent and a track record of patiently educating non-technical stakeholders to drive cultural change.
- Radical Empathy & Patience: Exceptional emotional intelligence with the ability to navigate a complex, relationship-driven culture. You hear the ‘why' behind every request and can build trust even while introducing difficult changes.
- High Ownership, Low Ego: You are comfortable being the ‘one throat to choke’ and take ultimate ownership for the campus technology experience, but you are also quick to connect, collaborate, and give credit to other teams.
