Position Description
As a Senior Technical Director or Replay Operator for VirtCh, you are responsible for overseeing the technical aspects and replay packages of the event, including production, broadcast, and technology, following the direction given by the Executive Producer and Studio Producer. You will work closely with Show Callers and Camera Operators to ensure all technical aspects of the show are executed flawlessly.
Responsibilities
Pre and Post Production
- Work 4.5–7 hour shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays, ensuring call times are followed, and coverage is in place when necessary
- Complete show-ready checklists provided by Studio Producer prior to all shows
- Schedule all pre- and post-production meetings with client
- Conduct pre- and post-production meetings prior to all shows with client
- Complete and submit post-production reports according to VirtCh operating standards for all shows
- Download game day rundowns and scripts for all shows
- Manage all content package deliverables for all shows:
- Post-game highlight melt
- In-game packages and highlight clips as requested
- Replay clips and highlights
- Manage all internal marketing content package deliverables
- Other duties as assigned by Studio Management
Production
- Responsible for executing industry-standard tasks and duties of a Technical Director for assigned VirtCh client(s), including:
- Switching cameras and executing pre-loaded graphics during live sporting events according to broadcast rundown
- Ensuring accuracy of game day graphics and operating in-event according to broadcast rundown
- Following broadcast rundown and ensuring accurate information is received from client for all shows
- Coordinating replays with replay operator when necessary to ensure replays are displayed according to VirtCh Broadcast standards
- Operating PTZ cameras as needed
- Communicate live with local game day personnel to ensure all elements are executed using VirtCh Remote Coms System
- Communicate any in-event technical issues to Service and Support and maintain accurate documentation and communication with full broadcast team
- Other duties as assigned by Studio Management
Client Meetings
- Train clients when necessary
- Maintain communication with the client to ensure satisfaction throughout the show season
- Attend one pre-season introductory meeting (remote) with the client
- Attend one mid-season performance review meeting (remote) with the Executive Producer, following mid-season Executive Operator check-in meeting with the client
- Other meetings or communication as assigned by Studio Management
Quality Control
- Review daily performance to ensure it meets production standards
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of all show equipment
- If working remotely, provide a minimum download and upload internet speed of 50/50 Mbps
- Other duties as assigned by Studio Management to ensure quality control and show growth
Skills and Requirements
Industry Background
- Minimum 1–3 year of experience in live event production or sports broadcasting required
- Proven success in managing remote productions and workflows preferred
Sports Knowledge
- Familiarity and basic understanding of Minor League Baseball rules and the pace of live sports to anticipate key replay moments and camera shots
Technical Skills
Proficiency in Live Production Software
- Experience with production switchers (e.g., TriCaster, ATEM)
- Expertise in live-streaming platforms and tools (e.g., OBS, vMix, Wirecast)
- Knowledge of replay systems and related software
Video and Graphics Management
- Ability to load and operate game-day graphics packages
- Understanding of video resolution, codecs, and formatting
- Familiarity with generating clips for highlight packages and replays (no editing experience necessary)
Camera Operation and Control
- Experience operating PTZ cameras and managing remote camera feeds
- Ability to collaborate with wireless or local camera operators
Troubleshooting and Problem Solving
- Expertise in diagnosing and resolving technical issues in real time during live events is preferred
- Strong understanding of network setups for live broadcasts
Software Knowledge
- Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite, particularly Premiere Pro and After Effects (preferred but not necessary)
- Experience using collaborative tools such as Microsoft Teams, Slack, Zoom, Dropbox, and project management software
- Experience using Elgato Stream Deck, NewTek TriCaster, MotionRocket Launchpad, or other broadcast operating systems preferred
Soft Skills
- Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills for real-time coordination with clients, teams, and local personnel
- Time Management: Ability to manage multiple tasks and deliver under tight deadlines
- Attention to Detail: Meticulous approach to ensure error-free broadcasts
- Adaptability: Comfortable working in high-pressure, fast-paced live production environments
Work Environment Requirements
Technical Setup at Home for Remote Directors:
Reliable high-speed internet (minimum 100 Mbps recommended) and a quiet, distraction-free workspace suitable for live broadcasts.
Availability
- Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required
- Ability to commit to up to 6 days/week series through the end of the season according to the assigned team schedule
