Opportunity:

As part of the Riddell Research and Development Team, you will play a key role in designing and developing world class protective products based on advanced technologies such as Smart Sensors, additive manufacturing and 3D scanning.  You will work closely with product development teams to develop a holistic design solution.  We are looking for a creative and innovative designer with strong ideation skills to help develop simple solutions to complicated problems. 

What you’ll do:

  • Establish creative concepts for opportunities not yet identified in the market
  • Participate in research for new product development projects that lead to product innovation
  • Work with R&D Team to evaluate new/emerging technologies and develop sketches/CAD/prototypes for product presentation
  • Effectively communicate ideas and translate those ideas into 3D models and working prototypes
  • Verify and validate design intent through virtual and/or physical test methods
  • Create and maintain design documentation such as engineering drawings, product and material specifications, bill of materials, etc.
  • Produce accurate and complete document packages to ensure design intent is carried through to commercialization
  • Assist the Riddell Test Lab with various testing procedures
  • Develop tech packs to communicate product concepts to manufacturing partners
  • Collaborate with other teams both internally and externally to provide new solutions and ideas to improve product performance, product quality, and improve manufacturing processes.
  • Find opportunities and solutions in ambiguous environments

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Design
  • 0-2 years of work experience
  • Hard and soft goods experience
  • Demonstrated high proficiency in parametric modeling of complex parts/surfaces with Solidworks, Creo, or Rhinoceros 3D
  • Proficient in Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop
  • Exceptional sketching, rapid visualization, and rendering skills
  • Excellent visual, verbal, and written communication skills
  • Ability to translate user needs and research insights into great product concepts
  • Hands on approach and entrepreneurial attitude
  • Not a stylist: Mechanical aptitude paired with exceptional ideation skills

  • Ability to work in a cross-functional team environment
  • Mechanical Aptitude – ability to perform professional mechanical engineering assignments of a wide variety and complexity under general direction
  • Fostering Innovation – looking beyond the norm in developing new products, practices and embracing necessary change
  • Effective Communication - Clear communication to internal and external customers in multiple formats
  • Project Management – strong organizational skills, acute attention to detail to ensure timely delivery of projects.
