The USL is one of the most prominent Division II professional soccer leagues in the world, reaching a population of more than 84 million people to fuel the growth of professional soccer across North America. Headquartered in Tampa, Florida, the USL provides unparalleled club support with a growing team of more than 50 professionals across 17 departments, ranging from operations to digital, communications and club services.

Position Purpose

United Soccer Leagues is seeking a VP, Marketing who can take our properties to the next level of growth at a revolutionary time for the company. The VP, Marketing is responsible for creating, managing and executing marketing strategies across multiple channels to elevating the profile of all properties to fans, players and other stakeholders. This position is responsible for working with all key business units across the entire organization, including league operations, sponsorships, broadcasting, new business development, club services and digital, with the goals of providing support and promoting United Soccer Leagues’ campaigns and events.

Duties and Responsibilities

Specific duties include, but are not limited to:

Translate strategic marketing plans into actionable short- and long-term targets, goals, initiatives and metrics that align with United Soccer League’s objectives
Identify and engage target audiences, influencers and partners to drive brand awareness to support marketing objectives
Plan and oversee advertising and promotional campaigns which include may include TV, radio, print, social and digital marketing to ultimately drive awareness and increase brand affinity
Articulate a creative vision and manage its execution for a range of mediums and platforms
Work with other departments to ensure cross-platform execution and activation of omnichannel marketing campaigns
Plan, manage and take responsibility for the budget and re-prioritize for improved ROI
Purchase and manage all radio, print, TV, digital, and outdoor advertising and promotions as dictated by each campaign’s marketing plan.
Enhance the value provided to league sponsors and partners through activation that generates engagement and awareness for key audiences
Conduct market research and analyzes media ratings and trends, preparing reports for management to inform marketing decisions.
Identify strategic marketing partners and opportunities for United Soccer Leagues and clubs.
Work closely with professional clubs; enabling them to meet their commercial objectives by providing them with appropriate tools, materials and expert knowledge.
Collaborate with the Club Services team to create campaigns focused on both growing match attendance and the USL fan base
Oversee the management, acquisition and capitalization of fan data records and information.
Work closely with digital and communications team to build a seamless USL fan journey
Manage multiple departments including graphic arts, video production, and events
Ensure all creative assets properly reflect the brand and are consistent with marketing and messaging objectives

Qualifications

Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Advertising or related field.
8+ years of marketing experience within the sports, entertainment, advertising agency or media industries
Experience working at a professional league, team or sports property is preferred
A strong understanding of the culture of soccer and its fans across North America is highly preferred
Strategic vision, and the ability to clearly articulate and successfully translate strategy into results.
Understanding of market research, revenue-generating programs, database management, and digital marketing strategies.
Experience with CRM software and digital marketing tools and paid advertising techniques
Experience in developing a B2B and B2C multichannel marketing strategy with a strong focus on digital
A strategic thinker who can make connections across the properties and apply them to marketing initiatives; anticipates issues and proactively works to resolve them.
Experience in measurement tools used to assess the impact of marketing and advertising efforts.
Demonstrated understanding of how marketing, creative and media work seamlessly to help brands succeed
Able to handle highly confidential material and information that could have substantial impact upon the organization.
Knowledge of event planning, marketing, execution
Fluency in English, written and oral. Abilities in Spanish a second language preferred.
A creative writer that can take a concept and turn it into reality
Superior editing and proofreading abilities.
Ability to work independently in a multi-faceted and deadline-driven environment.
Excellent organizational skills. Ability to manage a broad portfolio of projects simultaneously.
Proven ability to lead, manage and develop staff in an atmosphere of multiple projects, shifting priorities and deadline pressures.
Positive attitude and strong work ethic a must.
Ability to work as business needs require which will include long days, evenings and weekends, and occasional travel for major campaigns and events.
Must have U.S. work authorization.
