Position Title: Backup Mascot Performer

Position Summary
The Backup Mascot Performer supports Rhode Island FC’s primary mascot, Chip the Harbor Seal, by representing the club in a high-energy, family-friendly, and community-focused manner. This role appears at select home matches, community events, sponsor engagements, youth clinics, and special appearances when the primary performer is unavailable or when additional coverage is required. The performer must embody the personality, style, and character traits of the mascot while maintaining a positive and approachable presence.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform as the Rhode Island FC mascot at designated home matches, community events, school visits, and sponsor or partner activations.
- Maintain the established character identity, movement style, energy level, and performance approach to ensure brand consistency.
- Interact with fans of all ages in a friendly, safe, and engaging manner.
- Participate in on-field or in-stands skits, promotions, media opportunities, and photo moments.
- Assist with mascot run-of-show, cue coordination, and timing with the Marketing & Game Presentation team.
- Oversee proper care, handling, and storage of costume pieces and accessories after each use.
- Support occasional non-game appearances during off-season or community initiatives.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Prior performance, dance, theater, cheer, or athletic movement experience preferred.
- Comfortable performing in full costume, including in warm weather, for extended periods.
- Ability to express personality and emotion non-verbally; mascot does not speak.
- Dependable, punctual, professional, and comfortable engaging with the public.
- Must pass a background check and adhere to Rhode Island FC conduct standards.
- Must be able to lift and carry up to ~30 lbs. (costume weight) and stand for extended periods.
- Weekend, evening, and holiday availability required, based on match and event schedule.
- Valid driver’s license preferred (for off-site events).
Compensation
Hourly/event-based compensation depending on experience and availability.
