SUMMARY:

The Communications and PR Manager is responsible for managing all internal and external communications for Monterey Bay FC. This includes a focus on media relations and press operations as the primary point of contact for all local and national media, as well as the creation and distribution of all written communications. 

This role plays a key part in the club’s overarching storytelling efforts, including messaging alignment, coordination, and the distribution of content. The Communications and PR Manager is responsible for ensuring accurate, timely, and professional communication across all platforms while helping elevate the club’s visibility and reputation within the Monterey Bay region and the greater soccer landscape. This role also manages the documentation and distribution of all player and club historical data. The position will report directly to the CEO.
 

MINIMUM POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

•       Align the communications and content activities to the overall goals of the organization.
•       Write quotes and statements on behalf of the organization, including for ownership, President, Sporting Director and    Coaches. 
•       Plan and execute both long-term and short-term PR plans and initiatives.
•       Plan, arrange and execute press conferences.
•       Prepare and distribute press releases and pitch media.
•       Prepare media guide, game notes and information for team broadcasts.
•       Maintain team and franchise historical records.
•       Oversee and manage compliance with USL policies, including post-practice, post-game, and pre-game media                availabilities.
•       Oversee final responsibility for all publications, including game notes, media guides, website, and social media.
•       Coordinate the club’s online and digital element with stakeholders, including but not limited to: season ticket holders,    influencers, fans, supporter club, youth soccer clubs, media and athletes.
•       Responsible for creating compelling digital content including but not limited to blogging, website updates, social media posts, social media objects and contests.
•       Manage and implement all website updates and content creation through SportsEngine.
•       Maintain an online content calendar and content themes to prioritize posts, e-communications and updates to and          audiences and the best times to engage them.
•       Track and provide monthly reports of all digital engagement and media impressions using various online tools.

MATCHDAY RESPONSIBILITIES:

•       Lead all matchday online engagement including but not limited to: live social posts form event, updates on player          status, scores, trivia, sponsor activation, contests, pre/post game reports on website.
•       Lead credentialing for media and staff.
•       Coordinate media coverage of games, home and away.
•       Supervise game day photographers and ensure images at uploaded to USL.
•       Assist camera operators and on-site technician for broadcast requests.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS REQUIRED:

•       Knowledge and experience with the sport of soccer required.
•       Bachelor's Degree from a university in sports management, public relations, sports information, or related field.
•       Minimum of 3-5 years of public relations/media relations experience; professional sports experience is preferred.
•       At least three years of media relations and digital communications experience required.
•       At least two years of working for a sports team or league preferred.
•       Able to multi-task under time constraints, meet deadlines and work within a fast-paced industry/environment; must be very detail-oriented.
•       Proven ability to proactively pitch stories and develop storylines
•       Excellent communications skills, both written and verbal.
•       Travel with the team as needed as PR point of contact.
•       Minimal design experience to edit photos and create digital graphics.
•       Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects.
•       Ability to solve problems quickly.
•       Attention to detail.
•       Good working knowledge of computer programs including Microsoft Office, digital platforms, social media platforms    and Adobe Suite (e.g. In-Design, Photoshop, ect.).
•       Ability and willingness to work varied and long hours including nights, weekends, and holidays.
