Position Purpose
The Safeguarding Compliance Specialist plays a critical role in supporting the implementation and operationalization of USL’s Safeguarding initiatives. The Safeguarding Compliance Specialist will be responsible for communicating with member clubs regarding education and training standards, ensuring clubs have filed all compliance documentation to remain in compliance with all USL and USSF Pro Standards for club training, and ensuring best practices are shared and implemented within the USL ecosystem.

- Proficient in all USL and USSF policies, standards, by-laws and regulations.
- Current on all USL and USSF standards for club, coach & player education and training.
- Remain informed of regulatory guidance related to misconduct, abuse and/or SafeSport requirements at federal, state and local levels.
- Lead Auditor for all assigned USL member clubs’ education and training.
- Monitor Compliance Audit Worksheets for all assigned clubs.
- Professionally and effectively communicate with teams regarding their compliance status.
- Maintain current on all documentation to support club compliance.
- Consult and provide training to USL member clubs on best practices, policy compliance, safeguarding standards and procedures.
- Safeguarding and Discriminatory Behavior and Language Investigations Support.
- Work directly with Safeguarding & Compliance Manager as Investigation Support.
- Sit as an active member of the Investigative Unit (IU).
- Have a solid knowledge of DEI and Trauma-Informed interview concepts.
- Work in conjunction with the Safeguarding & Compliance Manager (as needed) to:
- Receive and acknowledge all complaints or notifications in a timely manner that arise through the reporting portal.
- Conduct interviews of claims and manage the claim process.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records on all cases, log decisions, investigation information, activities, and status of cases in our online platform.
- Inform USL stakeholders on abuse or misconduct complaints and provide resolution recommendations.
- Attend USL Events as an in-person safeguarding specialist.
- Other duties/responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Law, Risk Management, Human Services or related field, or equivalent experience/combined education.
- Preferred 1.5+ years of related professional experience in compliance, auditing, or case management.
- Experience in recognizing and assessing risk in a business setting highly preferred.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality with sensitive matters and athlete/team member information required.
- Knowledge of SafeSport, Safe Soccer and compliance requirements necessary.
- Strong emotional intelligence is necessary.
- Familiar with DEI concepts.
- Strong planning skills with the ability to manage multiple concurrent priorities.
- Bilingual capabilities in English and Spanish highly preferred.
- Must be extremely detail-oriented with a large focus on producing thorough documentation.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills to effectively interact with team members, executives, member clubs, and external partners.
- Strong Microsoft skills with emphasis on Excel, including PowerPoint experience.
- Ability to work independently in a multi-faceted, fast, fluid, and deadline-driven environment.
- Positive attitude and strong work ethic a must.
- Ability to work as business needs require which may include long days, evenings, weekends, occasional holidays, and travel if / when necessary.
- Must have U.S. work authorization.

Currently, USL HQ operates on a hybrid work model. From Monday to Thursday, team members gather in person to harness the power of face-to-face collaboration. On Fridays, we transition to a remote work setup, providing our team with the flexibility to manage their tasks in an environment of their choosing.
Typical USL HQ hours are Monday – Friday 8:30am – 5:30pm ET. Evenings, weekends, occasional holidays, and travel may be necessary based on business demands.
