JOB SUMMARY
The Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC is a professional men’s soccer team competing in the USL Championship, the second tier of American soccer. The organization also includes the Pittsburgh Riveters SC, a USL W League women’s team launched in 2025, and the nationally recognized Riverhounds Development Academy. All teams operate out of the AHN Montour Sports Complex and the picturesque Highmark Stadium, located in Station Square along Pittsburgh’s iconic skyline. Highmark Stadium is set to expand to 15,000 in the coming years as part of a $125m renovation and expansion project. As Director of Marketing, you will report to the Club President and the Club Owner. The Director of Marketing leads the strategy and execution of all marketing efforts for the Clubs and related entities, driving fan and customer engagement, ticket and merchandise sales, and brand growth across all platforms. This role oversees digital campaigns, creative storytelling, and grassroots community outreach to elevate the Club’s presence, deepen connections with fans, and deliver measurable business results.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
· Lead the development and execution of the Club’s overall marketing strategy, including brand positioning, campaign planning, and audience engagement initiatives.
· Serve as a member of the executive team and play an active role in organizational strategy, growth planning, and key decision-making.
· Direct and mentor the marketing, communications, and content teams by providing leadership in hiring, coaching, performance management, and professional development.
· Build and execute data-driven campaigns that grow attendance, drive ticket and merchandise sales, and expand the Club’s reach across digital and traditional channels.
· Collaborate with internal departments and external partners to deliver actionable market research, data insights, and recommendations that strengthen revenue-generating strategies.
· Identify, develop, and secure strategic sponsorships and marketing partnerships that create mutual value and expand brand visibility.
· Cultivate strong working relationships with regional partners, sponsors, and community stakeholders to create cross-promotional and co-branded opportunities.
· Plan, purchase, and manage all advertising and promotional campaigns across radio, print, television, digital, and out-of-home media, ensuring strong ROI and consistent messaging.
· Partner with the Club President to manage and grow broadcast relationships across TV, radio, and digital platforms.
· Oversee all creative and branded assets, including advertisements, signage, promotional items, uniforms, digital content, and merchandise design consultation.
· Collaborate with production and stadium operations teams to shape the in-venue experience, including pre-game, in-game, and post-game entertainment.
· Direct community and grassroots marketing programs, including street team efforts and local partnerships, to deepen fan engagement and brand presence.
· Lead fan research, surveys, and customer feedback initiatives to continuously improve the Club’s communication and marketing effectiveness.
· Manage and grow audience databases, ensuring targeted, accurate, and effective email and digital communication campaigns.
· Maintain brand integrity by reviewing and approving all materials that use the Club’s marks, likeness, or intellectual property.
· Develop, track, and manage department budgets to ensure resources are allocated efficiently and goals are achieved.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
· Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Business, Sport Management, or a related field required; Master’s degree preferred.
· 5+ years of progressive marketing or communications experience, ideally within sports, entertainment, or hospitality, with at least 3 years in a leadership role.
· Demonstrated success developing and executing strategic marketing plans that deliver measurable growth in line with organizational goals.
· Proven experience leading and developing teams, including hiring, coaching, performance management, and intern program oversight.
· Strong track record executing external relationships and contractual agreements with sponsors, media partners, and vendors.
· Advanced experience with digital marketing tools and platforms such as Google Ads/Ad Manager, Meta Business Suite, Google Analytics, Tag Manager, SEO/SEM tools, and CRM or marketing automation systems (HubSpot, Salesforce, or similar)
· Skilled in paid media strategy, campaign optimization, and audience segmentation across digital and traditional channels.
· Exceptional writing and storytelling abilities, including experience creating press releases, proposals, and presentations.
· Excellent analytical and strategic thinking skills with the ability to interpret data and translate insights into actionable marketing tactics.
· High-level communication, collaboration, and presentation skills with the ability to work effectively across departments and with executive leadership.
· Strong cross-functional project management abilities and comfort operating in a fast-paced, evolving environment.
· Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook); experience with Adobe Creative Suite, and ticketing systems preferred.
· Proficient in using and managing content across key social media platforms including Facebook, Instagram, X (Twitter), YouTube, Tiktok and other emerging channels.
· Demonstrated leadership in complex or ambiguous situations and a hands-on approach to problem-solving.
· Passion for sports, live events, and creating meaningful connections between teams, fans, and the community.
