Marketing and Communications Intern
Location: In-person
Duration: January – May
Hours: 10-15 hours per week
Credit: For academic credit only 

Overview: 

The Marketing Intern will play an important supporting role in the development and execution of the Cosmos’ marketing and communications initiatives. Working closely with the Director of Marketing & Communications, this individual will assist in creating engaging content, coordinating campaigns, supporting community initiatives, and executing social and digital strategies that grow the club’s visibility and fan base. 

 
This position is ideal for a motivated, detail-oriented student passionate about marketing, storytelling, and soccer culture. 

Learning Objectives & Experiences: 

Marketing & Brand Development 

  • Learn how to plan and execute integrated marketing campaigns that promote ticket sales, community programs, and brand awareness. 
  • Gain experience managing social media channels — learning how to schedule, caption, and analyze content performance. 
  • Develop an understanding of brand identity and visual consistency through hands-on work with graphics, photos, and video assets. 
  • Assist with community and grassroots marketing activations to see how local engagement contributes to team growth. 
  • Learn how to measure marketing impact by tracking data and compiling basic reports on fan engagement and campaign performance. 
Communications & Public Relations 

  • Learn how professional teams communicate with media outlets through press releases, advisories, and interview coordination. 
  • Assist in preparing internal and external communications, ensuring consistent messaging across channels. 
  • Support media relations and event operations at press days, announcements, and game-day experiences. 
  • Gain insight into how organizations manage reputation and build relationships with journalists, community leaders, and partners. 
Event & Fan Engagement Experience 

  • Participate in matchday and event marketing operations, learning how in-person activations support the fan experience. 
  • Work cross-functionally with departments such as ticketing, partnerships, and community engagement to see how marketing aligns with organizational goals. 
  • Observe live feedback loops — seeing how campaigns, visuals, and storytelling drive real-time fan reactions. 
Qualifications 

  • Currently pursuing a degree in Marketing, Communications, or a related field. 
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills. 
  • Familiarity with social media platforms (Instagram, X, TikTok, YouTube, Facebook). 
  • Basic design or editing skills using Canva or Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere). 
  • Interest in digital marketing, analytics, or brand storytelling. 
  • Ability to multitask and work collaboratively in a fast-paced, startup environment. 
  • Passion for sports, culture, and community building — understanding of soccer a plus. 
  • Availability to assist during select evenings, weekends, and matchdays.
