Overview:
The New York Cosmos Merchandise & Consumer Products Internship offers students the opportunity to learn firsthand how a professional sports organization develops and launches merchandise, branding, and retail experiences. This internship is designed as an immersive learning experience interns will observe, participate, and contribute alongside professionals while gaining valuable insights into the sports business and consumer products industry.
Learning Objectives & Experiences:
• Learn about the design and development process for merchandise and consumer products within a professional sports club setting.
• Collaborate with and receive mentorship from the Director of Consumer Products, Merchandise, & Licensing while exploring multiple real-world projects.
• Gain hands-on exposure to the planning and launch of a physical retail store, from concept development to opening day.
• Observe and assist in pop-up events and special product activations, gaining understanding of event-based merchandising.
• Learn how to organize and manage creative assets, including product files, presentations, and visuals used for marketing and retail.
• Contribute creative ideas and feedback on product design, branding, and merchandising strategies in a collaborative learning environment.
Ideal Candidate Profile:
• Currently enrolled in an accredited college or university program.
• Basic proficiency in design software (Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop) or a willingness to learn.
• Strong curiosity, creativity, and enthusiasm for visual design.
• Eager to learn, ask questions, and engage in hands-on learning experiences.
• Dependable, detail-oriented, and able to manage academic and internship commitments effectively.
• Available to participate in person 10–15 hours per week, with access to a personal laptop.
• Interest in soccer, sports culture, or consumer branding is a plus.
