Digital Communications Intern
Position Overview
We are looking for a detail-oriented, organized, and strong writer to join our communications team as a Digital Communications Intern. This role will support the day-to-day management of the team's digital platforms while assisting with written content, league communications requirements, player announcements, and research.
The ideal candidate has strong writing and communication skills, is comfortable working with websites and digital content, and has an interest in sports communications, public relations, journalism, or digital media. This position requires someone who can manage multiple deadlines, pay close attention to detail, and work efficiently in a fast-paced sports environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with managing, updating, and maintaining the team's website, including updating schedules, rosters, player information, news, photos, and other website content.
- Assist with writing, editing, and publishing team news articles, game recaps, features, announcements, and other digital content.
- Help ensure website content remains accurate, current, and consistent with team and league standards.
- Assist with tracking and completing league-required digital uploads and submissions, ensuring materials are submitted accurately and by required deadlines.
- Maintain organized records of league communications, required materials, and submission deadlines.
- Conduct research related to potential player signings, player backgrounds, statistics, career history, and other relevant information.
- Assist with gathering and organizing information needed for new player announcements, roster updates, and team communications.
- Research relevant news, statistics, team information, and other materials to support communications and content development.
- Assist with proofreading and fact-checking digital content before publication.
- Coordinate with internal staff to gather accurate information for website updates, articles, and announcements.
- Monitor website content and help identify opportunities to improve the team's digital presence.
- Assist with additional communications, marketing, and digital projects as needed.
Qualifications
- Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Marketing, Sports Management, Digital Media, or a related field.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and ability to proofread and fact-check information.
- Strong research skills and ability to gather information from multiple sources.
- Comfortable learning and working within website content management systems (CMS).
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.
- Comfortable handling sensitive or time-sensitive information with professionalism and discretion.
- Familiarity with professional sports, league operations, or sports media is a plus.
- Basic knowledge of SEO, website analytics, or digital publishing is a plus.
