VA Revolution SC is seeking a dynamic and organized leader to join the club in a Head of Grassroots role. Our Head of Grassroots will be responsible for leading our youth recreational soccer programs for all players as young as 18 months through age 11. The goal of the Grassroots program is to bring an emphasis of fun and development to all players at all skill levels while preparing them for the transition to Travel soccer. Integral parts of our program include a professional coaching staff, age-appropriate curriculum, small group training and upstanding communication. Our Head of Grassroots will engage closely with players’ parents and ensure the player experience on their teams align with the club’s brand and developmental philosophy.

Key Roles and Responsibilities

Deliver the Grassroots Program Strategy
  • Partner with Technical Staff to define the Grassroots program strategy
    • Reevaluate the current state and future state under various growth scenarios (i.e. what when, how, why, who)
    • Define multi-location expansion plans and partner with County on potential field allocations
    • Determine the best way to engage the community (i.e. local schools, parks & rec) on growth strategy
  • Articulate the program’s marketing and communications needs and partner with the Marketing team for delivery 
  • Manage end-to-end program planning (i.e. dates, location, costs, ages, curriculum)
  • Monitor P&L - clearly define financial objectives and path to delivery 
  • Manage program budget & all staffing needs

Manage Day-to-Day Program Operations
  • Program Set-Up: Utilize club registration platform to create individual programs; Manage registration process, payments and inquiries; Organize and assign players to teams for each session and communicate placement to participants
  • Staffing: Organize recruitment efforts and hire seasonal staff to support registration volume; Manage all onboarding, training and payroll for Grassroots Staff; Create and communicate career pathway for new coaches to obtain initial and future licencing
  • Uniform Fulfillment: Identify kit needs and enable process for purchase & delivery with partner vendor(s)
  • Program Logistics & Scheduling: Manage all logistical requirements, including booking fields internally and externally, referee assignment, coordinating kickoff times and coach conflicts, communicating game times and coordinating equipment and supplies for all teams. 

Provide Exceptional Customer Service
  • Be the face of the Grassroots program both internally and externally; Maintain an active presence on the field during nightly sessions and game days to manage all inquiries and feedback from stakeholders
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for all Grassroots coaches, parents and player issues
  • Ensure consistent coach delivery of club provided training curriculum during training sessions
  • Observe guidelines and protocols during practice sessions and games to help players to avoid injuries while performing at a high level
  • Establish and maintain a culture of good sportsmanship, cooperation, and responsibility among athletes and coaching staff

Qualifications and Skills Required:
  • Experience: Minimum of 5-7 years coaching in a competitive youth soccer environment. Experience with a growing recreational program is highly desirable. 
  • Minimum USSF or UEFA D license.
  • Administrative Skills: Comfortable with complex logistical scheduling.
  • Software Proficiency: Proficient in using registration software (i.e PlayMetrics), team management tools (i.e. Got Sport, League Apps), and Microsoft Office/Google Workspace applications.
  • Communication: Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with the ability to effectively interact with players, parents, staff, and external partners.
  • Schedule: Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends.
