The Play-by-Play Broadcasting Intern will gain hands-on experience in live sports broadcasting, providing real-time commentary and storytelling for Vaqueros/Vaqueras matches across our broadcast platforms. You’ll work closely with the media production team to develop your play-by-play skills, support broadcast operations, and contribute to compelling content for fans locally and digitally. This role is ideal for enthusiastic students or recent graduates pursuing careers in sports media, journalism, or broadcasting.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide live play-by-play commentary during Vaqueros/Vaqueras matches for audio and video broadcasts.
- Prepare for broadcasts by researching teams, players, stats, and storylines ahead of matches.
- Collaborate with color commentators, producers, and media staff to deliver high-quality, engaging broadcast content.
- Assist in setup and teardown of broadcast equipment and press box operations on game days.
- Conduct pre-game and post-game interviews with players, coaches, and staff as needed.
- Help prepare and maintain game notes, player bios, lineups, and statistical data for use in broadcasts.
- Contribute to in-studio or pre/post-game shows, including narrative storytelling and analysis segments.
- Support the production of supplementary media content tied to broadcasts (e.g., podcasts, highlights).
- Assist with social media or digital distributions tied to live game coverage where relevant.
Qualifications
Required
- Pursuing or recently completed a degree in Broadcast Journalism, Communications, Sports Media, or related field.
- Strong verbal communication and live storytelling ability.
- Passion for soccer with solid understanding of the sport’s terminology, rules, and flow.
- Comfortable speaking on-air and collaborating in a fast-paced, live environment.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and game days.
Preferred
- Prior experience in sports broadcasting, radio, podcasting, or play-by-play announcing.
- Experience with broadcast software, audio mixing, or live production tools.
- Familiarity with studio setups, live stream workflows, and media production coordination.
