Position Purpose

The Soccer Information Coordinator is an entry-level role that supports Detroit City FC’s communications and media operations with a focus on soccer information management, matchday coverage, and digital content accuracy. 

Working closely with the Communications Manager and broader media team, this position helps ensure that DCFC’s match information, statistics, previews, recaps, and game notes are accurate, timely, and aligned across the club’s website, app, social channels, and broadcast partners. The coordinator also assists with press box operations, live stats, media credentialing, and media archive management in support of team content. 

Key Responsibilities


Match Information & Notes

  • Maintain and update match notes for DCFC home and away fixtures, ensuring materials are completed and uploaded to league platforms at least 48 hours before kickoff. 
  • Track and update all-time and seasonal statistics, legacy numbers, and other historical data for men’s and women’s teams after each match. 
  • Maintain and organize DCFC’s online match information archive, including match notes, recaps, statistical records, lineups, and other historical reference materials for all club matches. 
  • Coordinate with league partners, including USL, to ensure discipline reports, minimum standards reports, and match previews are received, understood, and incorporated into club communications. 

Media Relations & Credentials

  • Assist in managing media credential requests, media guidelines, and distribution of credentials to will-call and working media on matchdays. 
  • Support media relations by helping schedule interviews, attending player appearances, and coach access, and by maintaining up-to-date media lists and contact information. 
  • Help maintain accurate working media checklists for ticketing and front gate staff, including season-long and single-game working media credentials. 

Broadcast & Matchday Production Support

  • Assist with broadcast matchday operations, including preparing cards, stats, sponsor elements, and upload materials for production partners. 
  • Coordinate with streaming, when applicable, on match information, streaming links, and sponsor elements while meeting required deadlines. 
  • Support scoreboard testing and operation on matchdays, working with operations staff to verify power, internet, and basic functionality in press box and production spaces. 

Live Stats & Opta Communications

  • Serve as a key club contact for live match statistics, providing lineups and match conditions prior to kickoff, and confirming key events in-match. 
  • Assist in tracking goals, assists, cards, substitutions, and attendance, ensuring accurate reporting to the league and internal stakeholders. 
  • Utilize stats platforms to access and distribute match reports and live data to DCFC staff and channels. 

Digital Content & Match Coverage

  • Compose and assist with match preview articles, ensuring core information such as kickoff time, broadcast details, ticketing links, and match notes are present and clearly communicated. 
  • Support post-match recap articles and e-blasts by compiling match summaries, lineups, match data, attendance, next match information, and coordinated photo and video links. 
  • Help execute matchday and post-match social cadence, in collaboration with the social media team, including graphics, highlights, final stats, and player recognition content while maintaining brand and league standards. 

Media Management & Archival Organization

  • Assist in the systematic organization and archiving of photos and video in support of team content, ensuring assets are properly tagged, described, and categorized for future use. 
  • Use ScorePlay as the primary platform for media management, regularly uploading, organizing, and maintaining galleries and collections that support communications, marketing, and broadcast needs. 
  • Coordinate with photographers, videographers, and creative staff to collect, ingest, and archive matchday and training content in a timely manner, enabling efficient retrieval across club channels. 

Website, App, and Program Updates

  • Maintain accurate and timely match-related information across detcityfc.com, the DCFC app, and digital match programs before and after each game. 
  • Assist in flipping website assets and updating matchday pages following each fixture as part of the post-game process. 
  • Support creation and distribution of digital programs and matchday guides for all home matches. 

Press Box & Matchday Operations

  • Serve as the primary coordinator for press box operations on matchdays, including opening the space prior to media arrival, operating the space throughout the event, and securing it after the match concludes. 
  • Oversee day-of press box setup and functionality, including testing and operating the internet, PA system, wireless microphones, scoreboard, and other essential equipment to ensure a professional working environment for media, broadcast, and staff. 
  • Maintain press box upkeep, including cleaning supplies, office supplies, credentials and lanyards, radios, water and snacks, first aid kit, and other operational needs, and ensure the space is organized, stocked, and ready for use before each match.

Qualifications


  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in Communications, Journalism, Sport Management, Data or Information Management, or a related field. 
  • Strong understanding of soccer terminology, competitions, and match structure, with a willingness to learn league- and club-specific protocols. 
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills, especially in managing match notes, statistics, archives, and multiple deadlines. 
  • Solid writing and editing skills, with the ability to produce clear match previews, recaps, and informational updates under time pressure. 
  • Comfort working with digital tools such as content management systems, stats platforms, spreadsheets, and email marketing tools; familiarity with ScorePlay or similar asset management platforms is a plus. 
  • Ability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays in accordance with the match schedule, including occasional travel.

Reporting Structure

The Soccer Information Coordinator reports to the Communications Manager and works in close collaboration with the communications, marketing, operations, and broadcast teams. 

This position does not have direct supervisory responsibility but may coordinate tasks with interns, freelancers, and matchday media staff as assigned.

Work Environment & Physical Demands

This role operates in a hybrid office and stadium environment, including press box work on matchdays and occasional field-level duties in accordance with credentialing and safety protocols. 

The position requires regular use of computers, phones, and standard office equipment, as well as the ability to lift and move light supplies and navigate stairs and stadium areas during events. 

 
Physical Demands
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to exchange ideas and information. This is a somewhat sedentary role; however, some filing is required. The position requires the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets, and bend or stand on a stool as necessary.
