The Cosmos is a dynamic and innovative sports organization committed to building world-class soccer teams and growing a European style sports and culture club. We are excited to announce the launch of our men's team in USL League One in 2026 and our women's team in 2028 (league to be determined).
Position Summary
The Director of Marketing and Communications will lead the strategic development, execution, and optimization of all marketing initiatives and communications strategy for the Cosmos. This individual will be responsible for driving brand awareness, promoting ticket sales, creating dynamic fan engagement and building community engagement programs.
Additionally, the position is responsible for all internal and external communications as the club prepares for its inaugural season and beyond. We're looking for a creative, driven leader with a "roll-up-your-sleeves" mindset and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced startup environment.
Key Responsibilities
Marketing:
- Develop and execute a comprehensive marketing plan aligned with the club's business goals and brand vision
- Oversee brand identity, messaging, and visual consistency across all touchpoints
- Manage creative assets, including design, video, and content production—often hands-on when needed
- Lead digital marketing efforts across website, social media, email, and paid media
- Create compelling content and manage campaigns to drive fan engagement and conversions
- Analyze performance data to refine strategies and maximize ROI
- Collaborate with the VP of Revenue & Events to plan and execute integrated campaigns that boost ticket sales, merchandise, and event turnout
- Support grassroots and community marketing programs to grow a loyal fan base
- Collaborate with sponsorship and ticketing departments on cross-functional initiatives
- Lead marketing efforts for matchday presentation, in-stadium promotions, and fan experiences
- Ensure the game-day environment aligns with the brand and enhances the overall fan journey
Communications:
- Develop and execute comprehensive internal and external communications strategies
- Manage media relations, PR outreach, and press inquiries
- Oversee crisis communications and manage reputation management initiatives
- Create and distribute press releases, media advisories, and other communications materials. Coordinate with local, regional, and national media outlets to maximize coverage
- Manage relationships with key stakeholders, including community leaders, partners, and fans.
- Support the planning and execution of press events, media days, and game-day media operations
- Oversee internal communications to ensure consistent messaging across all departments
- Handle communications for player signings, club announcements, and major organizational updates
- Develop and maintain communications protocols and brand guidelines
Qualifications
- 7+ years of marketing and communications experience, ideally in sports, entertainment, or consumer-facing brands
- Proven experience in media relations, PR, and external communications
- Strong writing and editing skills with ability to craft compelling messaging for various audiences
- Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign); ability to create or edit assets when needed
- Demonstrated success in multi-channel campaign development and execution
- Strong understanding of digital marketing, analytics, and audience growth strategies
- Experience managing crisis communications and reputation management
- Excellent communication, presentation, and project management skills
- Comfortable working flexible hours, including evenings and weekends during the season
- A roll-up-your-sleeves attitude with the ability to operate independently and as part of a small team
- Collaborative, resourceful, and entrepreneurial mindset
- Understanding of passionate soccer fans and culture
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail
- Experience with media monitoring and measurement tools preferred
Salary Range = $75,000 to $85,000 eligibility for bonus
