Overview of Sporting JAX

Sporting Club Jacksonville, or “Sporting JAX” is the club founded in 2020 by a local Jacksonville ownership group and named in collaboration with the First Coast community in 2023.

The club’s goal is to operate a men’s professional USL Championship club, a women’s professional USL Super League club and a USL Youth Academy through work with city and county authorities to develop a 15,000-capacity community stadium and training facilities to host the clubs in Northeast Florida.

The ownership group is led by successful business entrepreneur Ricky Caplin and includes sporting legends Tim Tebow and Fred Taylor, as well as experienced professional soccer executive Steve Livingstone and local community innovator Tony Allegretti. Additionally, UF women’s soccer coaching legend Becky Burleigh leads Sporting JAX’s efforts as a consultant to the women’s pro team.

The club is a community-oriented organization focused on providing opportunities for youth development, fostering competition, and delivering exceptional professional soccer experiences.

The club’s stadium and facilities will reach out beyond soccer to other sports and other sporting communities. Sporting JAX exists in part to advance soccer and an equal playing field in our community as well as provide a “sporting chance” for the underserved and marginalized.

Overview of Position

Sporting JAX is seeking enthusiastic, dependable, and customer-focused individuals to join our Match Day Operations staff. Event staff members play a critical role in delivering a first-class fan experience at all Sporting Jax home matches and events held at Hodges Stadium.

This is a cross-functional game day role. Staff members will be trained to support both merchandise operations and ticket operations and may be assigned to different responsibilities from match to match based on operational needs. Flexibility, professionalism, and a team-first mindset are essential for success in this position.

Match Day Roles and Responsibilities

Merchandise Sales Associate
Staff assigned to merchandise operations help deliver a positive retail and brand experience for fans purchasing official Sporting Jax merchandise.

Responsibilities may include:
  • Selling official Sporting Jax merchandise at assigned retail locations throughout Hodges Stadium
  • Providing friendly, professional, and engaging customer service
  • Accurately processing sales using point-of-sale systems
  • Maintaining organized inventory and appropriate product density on the sales floor
  • Assisting with set-up and breakdown of merchandise displays before and after events
  • Keeping sales areas clean, organized, and visually appealing
  • Communicating clearly and professionally with fans, supervisors, and fellow staff members

Ticket Operations
Staff assigned to ticket operations help ensure a smooth, welcoming, and efficient entry experience for all fans.

Responsibilities may include:
Box Office Seller
  • Selling tickets using the SeatGeek ticketing platform
  • Assisting fans with ticket purchases, upgrades, and account issues
  • Troubleshooting and resolving ticketing problems in a timely and professional manner
  • Delivering excellent customer service while handling transactions accurately

Ticket Scanner
  • Greeting fans as they enter the stadium
  • Scanning and validating tickets using handheld scanning devices
  • Assisting fans with basic ticketing or entry questions

Usher
  • Assisting fans in locating their ticketed seats
  • Answering general stadium and event-related questions
  • Supporting guest flow and communicating issues to supervisors as needed

Scheduling and Event Commitment

This role supports all Sporting Jax home events, including:
  • 14 regular season Gainbridge Super League matches
  • 17 regular season USL Championship matches

In addition to league matches, staff may also have the opportunity to work non-league matches, exhibitions, tournaments, or other special events hosted at Hodges Stadium.

This is a part-time, event-day-only position. Attendance is required for each scheduled event during the season.

Game day roles will be assigned by management based on staffing needs and event operations.

Desired Knowledge, Skills, and Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Strong verbal communication and interpersonal skills
  • Professional demeanor with a customer-first mindset
  • Ability to remain calm, positive, and professional in fast-paced environments
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Basic computer and technology skills
  • Ability to work evenings, weekends, and non-traditional hours
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment
  • Willingness to learn and take direction
  • Interest or background in sports, event operations, ticketing, retail, or customer service preferred
  • Experience with ticketing platforms such as SeatGeek, ProVenue, or Ticketmaster is a plus, but not required
  • We are in sports and we want our staff to enjoy what they do. A friendly, outgoing, and enthusiastic personality is strongly encouraged.

Additional Information

  • Training will be provided prior to the season and on an ongoing basis.
  • Match day assignments may vary from event to event.
  • Reliability, flexibility, and professionalism are core expectations for this role.
  • A dress code will be enforced.
