Position Description
The Director of Corporate Communications – NTC/New Business Ventures - will be responsible for developing and executing strategic communications initiatives that enhance the visibility of U.S. Soccer, with a particular focus on the National Training Center (NTC) in Atlanta and new business ventures. This role requires strong leadership in media relations, community engagement, and storytelling to effectively communicate the organization’s goals and achievements. The individual will serve as a key liaison with media, partners, and stakeholders.
Primary Responsibilities
NTC & Metro Atlanta Communications
- Develop and implement a strategic communications plan for all NTC/Metro Atlanta-related initiatives.
- Cultivate and manage relationships with local and national media to promote the NTC.
- Serve as the primary communications liaison for Atlanta-based stakeholders, including AMBSE, Coca-Cola, and other key partners.
- Act as a community ambassador, representing U.S. Soccer with local civic and community organizations and serving as spokesperson when necessary.
- Partner with the events team to coordinate media and community activities around milestone NTC events.
- Support the NTC partnership development team with communication strategies.
- Provide media relations assistance for Men's, Women's, Youth, and Extended National Teams when training at the NTC.
- Ensure messaging is consistent with established Federation messaging, internally and externally.
- Collaborate with content team to align messaging and storytelling initiatives.
- Align all communications with business objectives, clearly connecting to the U.S. Soccer mission, vision, strategy and purpose.
- Develop strong cross-functional relationships with key partners and stakeholders across the organization.
B2B Communications and New Business Ventures
- Develop and implement strategic communications plans for B2B communications around FIFA World Cup, U.S. Open Cup, and New Business Ventures including TST, College Cup and real estate.
- Cultivate and manage relationships with local and national media to promote the above initiatives.
- Support internal clients within the Federation including strategy, tournaments, and commercial teams to support their communications needs surrounding these initiatives.
- Collaborate with content team to align messaging and storytelling initiatives.
Additional Responsibilities
- Conduct media and speaker training for U.S. Soccer spokespeople in alignment with strategic messaging frameworks.
- Act as a facilitator for meetings with internal departments and external partners.
- Serve as an emcee or moderator for U.S. Soccer events when necessary.
- Lead and mentor a corporate communications manager to assist with department initiatives.
Requirements
Minimum Qualifications
- 10+ years in a media relations/corporate communications role at a senior level in the sports, media, or entertainment industries.
- Business, Marketing, English, Journalism or Communications advanced education.
- Extensive experience in speech writing and preparation for senior leadership.
- Ability to relate to individuals at all levels of the organization with intelligent and articulate verbal and written communication skills.
- Experience in communications, press and advocacy, with established press and PR networks, public affairs and contacts in relevant fields.
- Experience in influencing senior leadership to strive for change and constantly push the envelope.
- Strong project management skills with an analytical mindset.
- The ability to work independently and in a collaborative work environment is required, along with strong organizational, interpersonal, analytical, and planning skills.
- Someone with excellent judgment, who listens well, implements effective, efficient solutions to problems and earns the respect necessary to implement changes to better the organization.
- An excellent facilitator who is experienced in resolving conflicts between parties to a dispute.
- General knowledge of soccer.
- Capable of working in fast-paced and demanding environments.
- Must be able to connect “micro” details to the “macro” vision and mission.
- Proficient experience with Microsoft Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook)
- Able and willing to work non-traditional hours including evenings, weekends & holidays.
- Able and willing to travel to most / all domestic & international U.S. Soccer controlled matches.
Desired Qualifications
- Ability to speak Spanish is highly desirable.
