The Groundskeeper is responsible for the day-to-day maintenance and care of playing surfaces at the Club’s Training Center, including two bermudagrass natural grass soccer fields and four synthetic fields. This role supports a professional training environment by ensuring fields are maintained to a high standard of safety, performance, and appearance. The Groundskeeper reports directly to the Senior Grounds Manager.

This is a full-time, hourly position requiring flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and select holidays. Work schedules may vary based on training operations, match preparation, and special events for Louisville City FC and Racing Louisville FC.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES: 

  • Maintain and manage natural grass and synthetic playing surfaces to professional standards, with a focus on safety, consistency, and performance.
  • Safely operate, direct, and maintain all groundskeeping equipment and tools, including mowing, fertilizing, aeration, irrigation, and field repair equipment.
  • Monitor field conditions and proactively address wear, drainage, turf health, and surface issues.
  • Maintain all storage areas, maintenance buildings, and other grounds-related workspaces in a clean, organized, and safe condition.
  • Assist with hiring, training, and supervising seasonal or part-time grounds staff as needed to ensure operational efficiency.
  • Support planning and tracking of the grounds and facility budget, including supplies, equipment, and maintenance needs.
  • Assist with field setup, breakdown, and preparation for training sessions, matches, and special events as required.
  • Coordinate with soccer operations and facilities staff to align field availability with training schedules.
  • Perform other duties and projects as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education & Experience
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience working on professional sports fields or equivalent experience.
  • Working knowledge of equipment and practices necessary to maintain natural grass and synthetic fields (e.g., mowing, fertilizing, aeration, irrigation, grooming).
  • Certified or willing to obtain a chemical spray license in Kentucky

  • Reliable, self-motivated, and flexible in a fast-paced, outdoor work environment.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to carry, push, pull, and lift up to 50 pounds. 
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, and move throughout facilities for extended periods.
  • Ability to work extended shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Willingness and ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions, including heat, rain, cold, wind, and snow.
  • Work may take place indoors or outdoors, depending on operational needs and event schedules.

SCHEDULE:

Must be available to work a flexible schedule, including weekends, evenings, and some holidays.
Schedule may vary based on training schedules, match preparation, and special events associated with Louisville City FC and Racing Louisville FC.
