POSITION OVERVIEW:
Reporting to the SVP, Finance, the Sr. Manager, Accounting will play a crucial role in managing the financial aspects of the organization. Responsible for overseeing the financial operations, ensuring compliance with financial regulations, and providing accurate financial data to support decision-making within the team. This position requires strong financial expertise, attention to detail.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Financial Reporting & Compliance:
  • Prepare and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports, including income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements.
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP and all relevant financial regulations and accounting standards.
  • Lead the month end close process including preparation, review and approval of all monthly journal entries, revenue recognition and all account recs.
  • Support monthly settlements with MLS, SDSU and Stadium Events.
  • Support game related settlements with MLS.
  • Oversee the preparation and submission of tax returns and other regulatory filings.
  • Implement and maintain internal controls to safeguard the team's financial assets.
  • Provide financial insights and recommendations to senior management based on the analysis of financial data.

Financial Operations:
  • Manage day-to-day financial operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and expense management.
  • Supervise the finance team and provide guidance and mentorship to team members.
  • Provide superior customer service and exceed internal and external expectations with service, communication and urgency.

Audit and Compliance: 
  • Assist with annual audits (financial, tax, business tax, agreed upon procedures) including samples, support schedules, analysis questions and other requirements.
  • Ensure all audit findings are addressed promptly and accurately.
  • Support with the preparation of MLS specific reporting.

Financial Strategy:
  • Contribute to the development of the team's financial strategy and goals.
  • Provide recommendations for improving financial performance and efficiency.
  • Other ad hoc projects and analysis as required.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Education
  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, or a related field
  • CPA certification preferred.

Experience
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in financial management and accounting, with experience in sports management or entertainment industry finance preferred.
  • Public accounting experience.
  • Proven leadership skills with at least 2 years in a supervisory capacity.

Skills:
  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles, financial regulations, and reporting standards.
  • Proficiency in financial software and ERP systems, preferably NetSuite.
  • Proficiency working with Microsoft Office suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.).
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
  • Passion for soccer and a good understanding of MLS operations is a plus.
  • Detail-oriented and driven self-motivator with a strong work ethic to get the job done.
  • Ability to analyze processes and procedures to make improvements.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and efficiently – both written and verbal.
  • Ability to work productively and multi-task in an unstructured environment with frequent interruptions.
  • Must have a flexible schedule with the ability to work nights, weekends, and holidays as required

Salary range: $125,000-$135,000
