Retail Associate

San Diego FC - Part Time
San Diego · CA
Retail Sales Associate · Event Guest Relations · Warehouse Operations
$20 / hour
San Diego FC is building something new in this city, and retail is one of the most visible places fans experience it. We're hiring part-time Retail Associates to work across our flagship store, our matchday retail locations at Snapdragon Stadium, our warehouse and fulfillment center, and the mobile retail units that bring the club into neighborhoods across the county.
Whether you're a student, working a flexible schedule around another job, returning to the workforce, or just looking for additional income around a schedule that isn't nine-to-five, this could be a fit.

Retail Associate is a cross-utilized role. Depending on your availability, experience, and the club's calendar, you may be scheduled at any of the following:

  • Flagship Store — Mission Valley. Our year-round home for retail. Daily selling floor, fittings, replenishment, visual standards, customer service.
  • Snapdragon Stadium. Multiple in-venue locations that are built up, stocked, run, and fully broken down every single matchday. Fast, physical, high-volume work in front of a full stadium.
  • Retail Warehouse & Fulfillment Center. Where the operation runs from — receiving product from vendors, ticketing and tagging, organizing inventory, staging and kitting for matchdays and events, and picking, packing, and shipping our ecommerce orders.
  • Mobile Retail — two trailers plus mobile units. Pop-ups and activations across San Diego County: community events, festivals, watch parties, partner activations, and youth soccer.

Job Responsibilities:
These responsibilities apply across all four operations — flagship store, Snapdragon Stadium, warehouse and fulfillment, and mobile retail. Associates are expected to perform them wherever they are assigned.

  • First Impressions: For many people, a retail associate is the first person from San Diego FC they ever talk to — at the mall, in the stadium, or at a trailer parked outside a community event. Set the tone. Represent the club and Right to Dream San Diego with warmth and professionalism, treat every fan like they belong here whether they're buying a full kit or just asking a question, and create an atmosphere people want to come back to. This is the most important part of the job.
  • Selling: Drive the front-line selling effort. Recognize what each fan is looking for, make honest recommendations, and contribute to sales, conversion, and productivity goals for your location.
  • Customer Service: Handle questions, sizing help, exchanges, and complaints professionally and resolve them on the spot where possible. Serve a diverse, bilingual fan base with patience during the busiest windows.
  • Product Knowledge: Maintain working knowledge of the full line — kits, seasonal collections, collaborations, and limited releases — including what's available, what's coming, and what it costs.
  • Jersey Customization: Take and process kit personalization orders accurately, including name and number rules, league restrictions, pricing, and turnaround expectations.
  • Order Fulfillment: Fulfill customization, special, and in-store pickup orders start to finish, and keep fans informed on status and timing.
  • Ecommerce Fulfillment: Pick, pack, and ship online orders from our warehouse to standard, with attention to accuracy and packaging presentation, and process online returns and exchanges.
  • Transactions & POS: Process sales on our point-of-sale and mobile POS systems, handle cash and card payments, and reconcile and close out your assigned station at the end of every shift.
  • Loss Prevention: Protect club assets by following checkout, inventory control, and loss prevention policies and procedures at every location.
  • Stadium & Event Conversions: Execute full build-out and full tear-down for every matchday and event. Set fixtures, merchandise and sign locations before opening. Restock through the match, then pack product, break down equipment, and assist with returning these items to their designated storage locations.
  • Inventory Support: Receive and check in vendor shipments against packing lists and POs, flag discrepancies and damages, ticket and tag product, stage and load for matchdays and activations, and support cycle counts and physical inventories.
  • Organization & Cleaning Standards: Uphold organization, presentation, and cleanliness standards at every location — sales floor, stockroom, stadium locations, trailers, and warehouse. Aisles clear, product off the floor, equipment where it belongs.
  • Grassroots Support: Support San Diego FC business initiatives by maintaining knowledge of club programs. Be able to speak to the public about community, marketing, and academy events, including distributing promotional materials and giveaways to drive fan engagement.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements:
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • This role requires the willingness and availability to work all 21 home matches, plus any potential playoff matches. Matchdays are the core of the job, not an occasional add-on. They include long shifts, nights, weekends, and holidays, and they run from pre-match build-out through post-match load-out.
  • Availability that includes evenings, weekends, and holidays, and flexibility for extended hours on matchdays and event days
  • Point of Sale (POS) experience
  • Reliable transportation to and between our Mission Valley store, Snapdragon Stadium, and our warehouse
  • Ability to work independently and stay composed in a fast-paced, high-volume environment

Physical Demands
  • Frequently lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 lbs; team lift heavier items such as fixtures, pallets, kiosks and racks
  • Stand, walk, bend, kneel, reach overhead, and climb ladders for shifts of 5–10 hours
  • Repetitive lifting and carrying during matchday load-in and load-out and warehouse receiving
  • Operate manual pallet jacks and rolling carts and racks
  • Work outdoors and in non-climate-controlled spaces, with exposure to heat, sun, wind, rain, and cold at the stadium and at mobile activations
  • Work in a warehouse environment with concrete floors, noise, and moving equipment

Preferred Experience:
  • Bilingual English/Spanish preferred
  • 1–2 years of retail, warehouse, or event operations experience
  • Experience with matchday, festival, or event retail — conversion and load-in/load-out specifically
  • Familiarity with inventory or warehouse management systems, RF scanners, or ecommerce fulfillment platforms
  • Basic Excel or Google Sheets comfort for counts, transfers, and daily sales reporting
  • Valid California driver's license and clean driving record (for associates interested in supporting mobile unit transport)
  • Forklift, pallet jack, or order picker experience
  • Genuine interest in soccer and in San Diego's soccer community
