Summary
As a key member of San Diego FC’s Recruitment team, the Scout will help shape the future of the Club by identifying exceptional professional and amateur talent from around the world who have the potential to thrive within the Right to Dream ecosystem. Reporting to the Assistant Sporting Director, this role will play an important part in building and executing a global talent identification strategy—connecting San Diego FC to emerging players, markets, clubs, academies, federations and football communities across Right to Dream’s global network.
 
This is a highly connected, football-first role for someone who can see both the player and the person: recognizing talent that aligns not only with our style of play and player profiles, but also with the culture, values and development philosophy that define Right to Dream. Through live and video scouting, data, research and relationships across the global football landscape, the Scout will identify, evaluate and recommend players who can contribute to San Diego FC’s continued growth and ambition. 

Key Responsibilities
  • Operate within the methodology and player profiles as set by the group
  • Attend and observe games and tournaments at professional/amateur level (live & video)
  • Provide written reports on players within the structure set out by the group
  • Provide video playlists for recommended players via Hudl or Wyscout
  • Complete detailed reports on target players
  • Conduct in-depth research into leagues and potential players
  • Highlight potential professional/amateur players who fit into group style of play and culture
  • Create and maintain a network of contacts with agents, clubs, federations and league officials
  • Understand and comply with the rules and code of conduct for scouts within the values of the group
  • Availability to travel to matches and tournaments globally
  • Actively participate in regular department meetings, virtual and in-person
  • Adhere to any other requests that meet the needs of the organization

Experience & Qualifications 
  • Prior experience of talent assessment and identification within a professional football club or national federation.
  • Experience working within an elite sporting organization as a scout, analyst or coach
  • High level of football knowledge and experience, specifically around playing styles, player profiles and player development
  • Understanding and ability to use data to make informed decisions on players
  • Knowledge of how to use social media and the internet to follow transaction trends and key markets
  • Experience in scouting and data technologies like: Statsbomb, Wyscout, Impect, Skillcorner etc.
  • Strong understanding of the US professional setup and pathway
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent organizational and leadership qualities
  • Degree in related field or equivalent experience
  • Passport and ability to travel domestically and abroad
Preferred
  • Talent ID certificate within USSF, FA or equivalent qualifications
  • Bilingual (English/ French) or multi-lingual fluency
  • Coaching badges a plus
  • Playing experience a plus
