Summary: 
Utah Royals FC of the NWSL is seeking a full-time Technical Scout to support the club’s first team player recruitment strategy. This role focuses on player identification, evaluation, reporting, grading, and recommendation across domestic and international markets.

The position is weighted toward video scouting (approximately 50%), with additional responsibilities including live scouting, technical and physical data analysis, and collaboration with internal scouting and performance staff. The Technical Scout will play a key role in building comprehensive player intelligence, supporting data-informed recruitment decisions, and contributing to a consistent pipeline of talent aligned with the club’s playing philosophy and strategic objectives.

This is a remote position based in the United States.

Responsibilities Include: 
  • Collaborate regularly with the Director of Scouting & Recruitment and Data Analyst to align scouting efforts with club priorities.
  • Assess players identified by club leadership and internal scouting networks.
  • Identify potential targets through data filtering and analysis aligned with club profile criteria.
  • Conduct detailed player evaluations through video scouting and live match observations.
  • Compile comprehensive player reports, including technical, tactical, physical, and psychological assessments, within the club’s scouting database.
  • Provide player gradings and recommendations that directly inform recruitment decisions.
  • Conduct research to gather industry intelligence and maintain awareness of emerging player markets and trends.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including agents, coaches, clubs, and other industry contacts.
  • Support special projects related to industry benchmarking, scouting methodologies, and predictive talent identification.
  • Travel domestically and internationally for matches, tournaments, and scouting events as required.
  • Attend recruitment meetings and integration sessions in Salt Lake City as needed.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by club leadership.

Minimum Qualifications: 
  • Strong working knowledge of the U.S. and international women’s soccer landscape, including ECNL, NCAA, professional leagues, and global competitions.
  • Prior scouting experience within the U.S. women’s soccer environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to evaluate players across different game models and tactical systems.
  • Clear and logical decision-making skills with sound judgment in player assessment.
  • Experience using soccer-specific data platforms, scouting databases, and analytics tools.
  • Strong organizational, planning, and time-management skills with the ability to work independently in a remote environment.
  • Collaborative mindset with the ability to work effectively across departments.
  • Professional communication skills and confidence in building and maintaining an industry network.
  • Flexibility to adapt to evolving strategic needs of the club.
  • Must hold a valid driver's license and passport.
  • Able to travel locally and internationally. 
  • Flexibility is required to work evenings, weekends, and non-traditional hours.

Preferred Qualifications: 
  • Scouting certification.
  • Coaching certification and hands-on coaching experience.
  • Experience working within professional club scouting or recruitment departments.

Physical Demands & Work Environment: 
This role requires the ability to travel frequently and attend live matches and tournaments, which may involve prolonged periods of standing, walking, and sitting. The position also requires extended periods of computer work, video analysis, and data review. Work may occur in stadiums, training facilities, and varied outdoor environments.
