POSITION OVERVIEW 
Athletic development is central to the long-term progress and performance of our players. At New York City Football Club, we believe a consistent, evidence-informed approach to physical development is essential to building robustness, supporting injury resilience, and creating the physical foundation for sustained sporting success. 
The Performance Coach will support the planning, delivery, and evaluation of the NYCFC II physical development program. Working within an interdisciplinary, first-team-aligned performance model, this role will provide high-quality support across strength and conditioning, recovery, nutrition, athlete monitoring, fitness testing, training-load management, and return-to-play processes. 
The successful candidate will combine strong technical expertise with excellent communication, collaboration, and relationship-building skills. They will be committed to helping young players develop the habits, knowledge, and resilience required to thrive both as athletes and as people.

WHAT YOU’LL DO 
  • Plan, deliver, and evaluate individual and team-based physical development programs aligned with NYCFC’s first-team performance philosophy. 
  • Deliver strength and conditioning sessions, warm-ups, recovery strategies, athlete monitoring, fitness testing, and training-load management for NYCFC II players. 
  • Develop and implement appropriate return-to-play protocols in collaboration with athletic training, medical, coaching, and performance staff. 
  • Manage the collection, analysis, reporting, and practical application of performance data, including GPS and other athlete-monitoring technologies. 
  • Use data and professional judgment to provide clear, timely, and actionable feedback to players and coaches. 
  • Support NYCFC II coaches with the planning, delivery, and review of training sessions. 
  • Contribute to the continued development and implementation of NYCFC’s Human Performance philosophy across the Club. 
  • Support the physical development assessment and monitoring of players within the Elite Development pathway. 
  • Assist with the practical delivery of appropriate nutrition and hydration strategies for training, matches, travel, and recovery. 
  • Build effective working relationships with NYCFC II coaches, athletic trainers, analysts, Academy staff, first-team performance staff, and other key stakeholders. 
  • Educate players on training, recovery, nutrition, lifestyle habits, and personal responsibility in a way that supports long-term development. 
  • Maintain accurate records, communicate effectively, and uphold the professional standards expected within NYCFC. 

WHAT YOU’LL BRING
Required Competencies and Experience 
  • Bachelor’s degree in Sport and Exercise Science, Kinesiology, or related discipline (Master’s degree preferred) 
  • A recognized strength and conditioning qualification, such as the CSCS 
  • At least two years of paid experience working as a strength and conditioning or performance coach in a team-sport environment 
  • Demonstrated experience supporting the development of young or emerging athletes 
  • Practical experience designing and delivering strength, conditioning, recovery, monitoring, and return-to-play programs 
  • The ability to interpret performance data and translate findings into clear recommendations for players and staff 
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build trust and communicate effectively across an interdisciplinary team 
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Excel and PowerPoint 
  • A professional, organized, and detail-oriented approach to data management and daily operations 
Preferred Experience 
  • Experience using STATSports GPS or comparable athlete-monitoring systems. 
  • Experience using VALD technologies, including NordBord, ForceFrame, and ForceDecks. 
  • Experience working within a professional soccer or high-performance sporting environment. 
  • Fluency in Spanish or Portuguese.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS: 
  • Applicant must be able to comply with MLS Next Safety and Well-Being policy and any other applicable child safety policies provided to applicants by NYCFC. 
  • Must be able to work games scheduled which may be at night and on weekends and holidays. 

COMPENSATION:
This exempt position has an estimated annual base salary of $70,000. Final compensation offer amounts are based on a wide array of factors unique to each candidate, including but not limited to demonstrated skill set, years and depth of relevant experience, and some role-dependent factors such as certifications and software expertise.
