The Washington Spirit is seeking a Player Care Specialist who will serve as a secondary point of contact for Washington Spirit players and their families, providing essential support services that enable athletes to focus on their performance and wellbeing. This entry-level position is integral to creating a positive player experience by coordinating relocation logistics, managing day-to-day personal needs, and fostering strong connections between players, their families, and the Club.
Reporting to the Senior Manager, Player Marketing & Logistics, the Player Care Specialist will assist with onboarding newly signed, traded, or loaned players, coordinate housing and travel arrangements, support family-related logistics, and maintain detailed records of player care activities. This role emphasizes building trusting relationships with players while providing responsive, professional support across all aspects of their transition to and integration within the Washington, D.C. market and Spirit organization.
The ideal candidate is highly organized, culturally sensitive, proactive, and passionate about supporting elite athletes. This position requires flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and home match days, with occasional travel. The Player Care Specialist will work collaboratively with Soccer Operations, Medical & Performance, Technical Staff, and other departments to ensure a seamless and supportive player experience.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The Player Care Specialist will provide comprehensive support to Spirit players and their families with day-to-day personal, logistical, and onboarding needs. The responsibilities of the Player Care Specialist include:
• Serve as a reliable and responsive point of contact for players’ non-soccer-related personal needs, including relocation, housing, transportation, and lifestyle support;
• Coordinate onboarding logistics for newly signed, traded, or loaned players, including temporary and long-term housing arrangements, travel coordination, and market orientation;
• Assist players with essential documentation and administrative tasks, including obtaining driver’s licenses, state IDs, cell phone setup, opening bank accounts, vehicle registration, and other practical matters;
• Support international players with visa applications, work permits, immigration documentation, and cultural integration into the Washington, D.C. area;
• Assist with management of player relocation expense tracking and reimbursements, including car shipments, gas reimbursements, temporary housing, flights, and moving costs;
• Coordinate family-related needs, including visit arrangements, accommodations, matchday family suite access, and special events for player families;
• Assist with building and maintaining a network of local resources to support player and family needs, including schools, daycare, translators, housing contacts, and community services;
• Develop and maintain high-quality informational materials about the Washington, D.C. area, including regional amenities, housing options, educational resources, and community attractions for player recruitment and retention purposes;
• Organize player birthday celebrations, achievement recognitions, and other special occasions to foster team culture and morale;
• Assist with player appearance logistics and community engagement opportunities in collaboration with team operations and communications staff;
• Assist with the coordination of player calendars related to Club activities, travel, appearances, and performance obligations;
• Assist with transportation and logistics support directly connected to Club-approved travel in collaboration with team operations staff;
• Support released and traded players with market exit logistics, including housing transitions, moving household goods, ending car leases, and shipping arrangements;
• Assist with the maintenance of accurate and organized player care databases, documentation, onboarding checklists, and records of all support activities;
• Provide matchday support, including oversight of player suite setup, family credentials, and family room operations;
• Attend all home matches and training sessions as needed to remain accessible and responsive to player needs;
• Abide by all local, state, and federal laws and all applicable National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) and Team policies and procedures;
• Attend all activities, meetings, and programs as required by the NWSL; and
• Perform other duties as assigned or required by the Club.
QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor’s degree in Sport Management, Sports Psychology, Social Work, Hospitality, Human Resources, or related field preferred;
• 1-2 years of experience in a player-focused, operations, hospitality, or support role, preferably within professional sports or with athletes;
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build trust and maintain positive relationships with players, families, coaches, and staff from diverse cultural backgrounds;
• Highly organized with exceptional time management skills and ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities simultaneously in a fast-paced environment;
• Proactive, resourceful, and solutions-oriented approach to problem-solving;
• Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion and professionalism;
• Cultural competency and demonstrated ability to work inclusively with individuals from diverse backgrounds, including international players;
• Bilingual skills (Spanish or French) strongly preferred but not required;
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Google Workspace; familiarity with team management systems or databases a plus;
• Knowledge of NWSL rules and regulations preferred;
• Valid driver’s license required; ability to drive Club vehicles when needed;
• SafeSport certification required or ability to obtain prior to hire;
• Passion for women’s soccer and commitment to supporting elite athletes;
• Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and attend all home matches; occasional travel may be required; and
• Positive attitude, team-first mentality, and commitment to the Spirit’s organizational values and culture.
