The Washington Spirit is seeking an experienced and highly motivated Paralegal to support the General Counsel by providing legal support in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial and high-volume environment. 
 
The Paralegal will:
  • Under the supervision of the General Counsel, draft and revise a variety of contracts and other documents, including sponsorship, service provider, independent contractor, non-disclosure, technology, event agreements and waivers.
  • Summarize contracts and/or provide contractual information in response to business inquiries.
  • Draft, review and advise on promotions, contests and sweepstakes rules and related agreements.
  • Provide support and guidance to internal business partners, including direction regarding compliance with organization policies, procedures and guidelines.
  • Provide support to General Counsel on litigation matters, including litigation hold process, document collection and email review.  
  • Manage contracts and contract lifecycles including template development and managing contract execution and filing. 
  • Assist in maintaining and updating legal document database and departmental records.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of processes, systems and required tools to ensure contracts are prepared accurately, efficiently and timely with an emphasis on creating legal support efficiencies.
  • Manage intellectual property lifecycle and portfolios.
  • Assist with communications to the NWSL league office, including submission of executed agreements requiring approval.
  • Identify and escalate complex legal issues to the General Counsel for direction and/or handling.
  • Prepare legal communications, correspondence and documentation and assist in administrative tasks including managing calendar for legal filings and deadlines, scheduling meetings, and drafting and proofreading communications for the legal team.
  • Maintain professional level of communication with internal stakeholders and external contacts, while exercising discretion with confidential information
  • Assist with special projects, conduct research on requested topics and perform all other duties as assigned.

The ideal candidate has:
  • Associate’s degree from an accredited university or college.
  • Paralegal certificate or completion of paralegal degree program.
  • Minimum of 4 years of corporate paralegal experience.
  • Previous experience with contract drafting (required), corporate governance and intellectual property (preferred).
  • High level of organizational, analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills, with an ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks and carry out responsibilities independently.
  • Ability to quickly process workflow and prioritize, organize, and perform a challenging workload under tight deadlines.
  • Team player, comfortable working in a fast-paced and entrepreneurial environment.
  • Highly-motivated self-starter with ability to work both independently and collaboratively and actively demonstrate a commitment to prompt and thorough client service.  
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • A high-degree of professionalism and discretion with the ability to interact appropriately and comfortably both internally and externally and with senior management.
  • Ability to understand business operations, issues and dynamics beyond the scope of basic legal issues. 
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office (focused largely on Outlook, Word, and Excel)

Location: 
 
This role is primarily based at our Falls Church, VA office, with occasional work in Washington, D.C. Our front office team follows a hybrid arrangement, requiring presence in the office 3 days a week.
