ABOUT US
The North Carolina Courage, a member of the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL), is seeking a VP, Strategic Communications to join our team.

The Vice President of Strategic Communications will lead the Club’s integrated communications strategy, overseeing social media, content, and external communications to elevate brand visibility, deepen fan engagement, and support revenue-driving initiatives.  This leader will shape how the Club shows up across all platforms, driving a cohesive voice, modern storytelling approach, and real-time content strategy that reflects the energy of the sport, the community, and the Club’s ambitions.

This role requires a blend of strategic leadership, creative vision, and operational execution, with a strong understanding of the evolving digital and sports media landscape.

As a member of our Club, you will contribute to an environment grounded in our Operational Standards: Set the Standard. Own the Results. Lead the Club. We are looking for individuals who embody Integrity, Community, Accountability, Respect, and Excellence in everything they do and who are motivated to elevate the Courage through their work, attitude, and professionalism.

KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

Commercial Storytelling & Demand Integration
  • Partner directly with Marketing, Ticketing, and Partnerships to translate campaigns, offers, and initiatives into compelling narratives that drive action
  • Ensure content and storytelling are directly tied to business outcomes (ticket sales, group sales, partnerships, merchandise), not just engagement
  • Help shape campaign strategy, not just execute against it, by bringing storytelling, audience insight, and platform expertise into planning
  • Identify and build “moments” that convert attention into attendance
  • Align grassroots, paid media, and organic content into a cohesive market narrative

Communications Strategy & Brand Leadership

  • Develop and execute a comprehensive communications strategy aligned to Club priorities (ticket sales, partnerships, brand growth, community engagement)
  • Own the Club’s voice, messaging, and narrative across all external channels
  • Serve as a strategic advisor to executive leadership on communications, media positioning, and reputation management
  • Lead proactive storytelling efforts that elevate the Club’s presence locally and nationally

Content & Social Media Leadership

  • Oversee all social media strategy, content planning, and platform performance
  • Define and evolve the Club’s content identity (voice, tone, visual storytelling)
  • Lead real-time and game day content strategy to maximize engagement and relevance
  • Ensure consistency across all digital channels (social, web, email, app)
  • Identify emerging trends and platforms to keep the Club ahead of the curve

Media Relations & Public Relations

  • Lead media strategy, including press outreach, interview coordination, and relationship building
  • Serve as primary point of contact for key media partners
  • Oversee press releases, announcements, and key communications moments
  • Manage crisis communications and ensure readiness for high-profile situations

Team Leadership & Cross-Functional Partnership

  • Build, lead, and develop a high-performing communications and content team
  • Partner closely with Marketing, Partnerships, Ticketing, and Technical Staff to align messaging and campaigns
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to ensure communications support business priorities
  • Establish clear workflows, content calendars, and production processes

Performance & Analytics

  • Define and track KPIs across social, content, and communications efforts
  • Use data and insights to continuously refine strategy and improve performance
  • Report on engagement, reach, and impact of communications initiatives

 QUALIFICATIONS:
  • 12-15+ years of experience in communications, content, or media (sports, entertainment, or consumer brands preferred)
  • Proven experience leading social media and content strategy at scale
  • Strong understanding of digital platforms, trends, and audience engagement
  • Experience managing media relations and public-facing communications
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and develop teams
  • Experience operating in fast-paced, high-visibility environments

You will be successful here if you
  • Think like a marketer, not just a communicator. Understand how narrative drives behavior and revenue
  • Able to operate at both campaign level (season-long storytelling) and moment level (real-time content and cultural relevance)
  • Comfortable challenging traditional communications approaches in favor of more modern, innovative, growth-oriented strategies
  • Understand how to build brand and relevance in a developing market, not just maintain it
