The North Carolina Football Club, the parent organization of the NC Courage (first-division women’s pro soccer team playing in the NWSL) and North Carolina FC (second division men’s pro soccer team playing in USL Championship), is seeking a Mascot Intern who will serve as the bridge between fans and Roary, the NC Courage mascot, help schedule appearances, and assist her at games and appearances. This is a great position for someone looking to work in professional sports and gain mascot handling and performing experience, while offering a flexible schedule and work environment. 

JOB RESPONSIBILITES 

  • Assist Roary in daily operations including scheduling appearances. 
  • Serve as mascot handler at NC Courage at NCFC home games as well as external appearances (i.e. youth soccer-related functions, corporate events, festivals, school visits, etc.). 
  • Foster positive relationships with fans by providing an approachable and friendly presence. 
  • Create memorable experiences at events through mascot interaction.  
  • Follow the game day Run of Show to ensure the mascot arrives on time for all required appearances. 
  • Capture content at games and appearances.  
  • Communicate with fans to ensure an orderly and enjoyable game day experience (form lines, take photos, communicate mascot schedule, etc.). 
  • Serve as performer, when necessary, for gameday or external appearances.  
  • Learn mascot personality and mannerisms to ensure mascot brand is seamless between performers. 
 
QUALIFICATIONS: 
  • Applicants should be enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program and eligible for college credit. 
  • A genuine passion for soccer and a strong understanding of North Carolina Courage and North Carolina FC. 
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills with the ability to engage diverse audiences. Bilingual candidates are preferred.  
  • Comfortable interacting with people of all ages and backgrounds positively and enthusiastically. 
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.  
  • Availability to work evenings and weekends as needed.  
  • Must be able to work in varying weather conditions and flexible/changing work locations. 
  • Prior experience with mascot handling or performance preferred. Due to the limitations of the mascot suit, backup performers who are 5’0 "to 5’4" are preferred.

The job requires regularly lifting/pushing up to 25 pounds and occasionally lifting/pushing more than 50 pounds or exerting heavy force, in a wide disparity of environmental conditions. The job involves standing, stooping, bending, lifting, pushing, etc. When filling in as a performer, the job involves wearing a heavy, non-breathable mascot suit.
