Who are we hiring?
The Kansas City Current is seeking an experienced transactional Paralegal to support the Club’s growing Legal function across team, stadium, training facility, and commercial operations.
This role will be responsible for drafting, reviewing, negotiating, and managing a high volume of commercial agreements that enable day-to-day business operations — including technology and SaaS vendor agreements, sponsorship agreements, suite license agreements, event licenses, and employment-related documents — while maintaining the Club’s corporate records, filings, and compliance documentation.
This individual will play a critical role in helping Legal scale alongside the organization’s rapid growth by improving contract workflows, maintaining form agreements, and ensuring business partners are able to move quickly while managing risk appropriately.
What will you do?
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Prepare, proofread and/or edit legal transactional documents, correspondence, and/or contracts in draft and final form to incorporate handwritten or typed revisions.
- Manage and update contract forms library.
- Create initial drafts and conduct initial review of standard agreement forms, including waivers, confidentiality agreements, suite agreements, event license agreements, private rentals and sponsorship agreements for the team, stadium and training center.
- Identify contract risks or deviations from standard terms and escalate appropriately.
- Partner cross-functionally with business leaders to help move initiatives forward while maintaining legal safeguards.
- Assist with management of club’s trademark portfolio.
- Manage insurance program renewals, track COI requests and serve as company point of contact with broker and carriers.
- Assist with club and league policy management, updates, and compliance.
- Establish, maintain and manage corporate documents and filings in multiple jurisdictions.
- Assemble final documents, signature pages and coordinate signature with executives.
- Handle confidential records and information with discretion.
- Organize and maintain extensive sets of files, both electronic and paper.
- Manage attorney calendars and coordinate meetings.
- General office duties, such as preparing scans, copies, printing e-mails and documents.
- Perform due diligence activities, legal research and assist with other affiliate’s legal and corporate matters.
- Flexible with hours when work demands, and other duties as assigned.
What do you need to succeed?
- Bachelor’s Degree and/or Paralegal Certificate
- 3-5 years of transactional paralegal experience or as a legal assistant
- Law firm or in-house commercial legal department experience preferred
- Ability to work under pressure of deadlines and prioritize tasks efficiently
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills; aptitude to interface with executives, lawyers, staff and external key stakeholders
- Keen attention to detail and high level of accuracy
- Ability to prioritize and multitask
- Experience thriving in cross-functional environments
- Excellent organizational skills
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work independently while knowing when to escalate legal risk
- Experience creating redlines and blacklines in Microsoft Word and Adobe
- Experience managing contract or document management systems
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office 365, including Teams
Special requirements of the Job:
- Must be able to work a flexible schedule, inclusive of weekends, nights (event evenings & overnight operation shifts) and holidays.
- Ability to monitor company communications and respond to time-sensitive matters with senior executives.
- Requires occasional bending, squatting, and reaching overhead to handle various tasks related to facility management, equipment, and event preparation.
- Must be capable of working in physically demanding environments, including navigating stairs, ramps, and elevated platforms during venue conversions.
- Ability to work outdoors continuously for extended periods of time in all weather conditions.
