Who are we hiring? 
The Intern, Sports Performance Coach/Applied Sports Scientist  is a professional performance coach or sports scientist in training. The purpose of this position is to expose new Strength & Conditioning Coaches/Sports Scientists to a frame of work in developing sports performance in a professional soccer environment. The daily routine of this position includes internship times; where the focus is on education, shadowing, and assisting the performance staff- as well as the application time, where the focus is on practicing the skills sets via practical application of coaching with athletes. This position includes exposure with Kansas City Current first and second teams.  

What will you do? 
  • To learn the KC Current Performance and Medical Departments organization, its systems, and the methodologies it uses to support team and individual Soccer performance development. 
  • Assist with equipment set-up prior to each session and clean-up after each session as directed by performance staff. 
  • Shadow Performance Coaches and Sports Scientists to understand specific team roles and learn their best practices.  
  • Write brief journal entries of each session for reflection and to develop questions. 
  • Intern education will include formal and practical work on Strength & Conditioning, Speed Skill Development, and Sports Science/Data Collection and Analysis.  
  • Develop data skills through exposure to technologies and testing devices (including GPS, Vitruve, Vald, and Bridge Athletic), as well as data analysis software (including PowerBi). 
  • Work through education materials and own research on topics presented - bring critical thoughts and questions for discussion in following education sessions.  

What do you need to succeed?  
  • BA/BS in Exercise Science, Exercise Physiology, Kinesiology, Sports Science, or related field 
  • Preferred: Background/Experience with Soccer, MS in related fields, NSCA-CSCS 
 
Special requirements of the Job: 
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule, inclusive of weekends, nights (event evenings & overnight operation shifts) and holidays.
  • Ability to monitor company communications and respond to time-sensitive matters with senior executives. 
  •  Must be able to stand, walk, and move around the venue for extended periods of time, often during events or facility setup and breakdown.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds as needed for event setup, equipment management, or assisting with operational needs.
  • Requires occasional bending, squatting, and reaching overhead to handle various tasks related to facility management, equipment, and event preparation.
  • Must be capable of working in physically demanding environments, including navigating stairs, ramps, and elevated platforms during venue conversions.
  • Ability to work outdoors continuously for extended periods of time in all weather conditions
