Who are we hiring? 
The Kansas City Current is seeking a Director, Nutrition to guide the nutritional support for the team. This role will report directly to the Head of Performance and plays a crucial role in maintaining the health and supporting the performance of our professional athletes. The Director, Nutrition will develop dietary plans personalized for players’ needs to help them reach peak performance, as well as coordinate performance food services to make those plans achievable. This is a dynamic role that requires a high level of collaboration and communication with other team members, especially in Performance, Medical, Operations and Food Services areas.

What will you do?  
  • Meet individually with players and continue close communication throughout the season to develop professional and trusting relationships, get to know their preferences and history with food, and best inform approaches to an effective nutrition program at the team and individual levels
  • Assess current dietary plans with a continuous improvement mindset to refine and enhance nutrition support, and create new plans as needed
  • Consult with overarching performance department to understand overall  performance plans and  and build individualized plans to support these needs
  • Collaborate and communicate effectively with the Medical team and team doctors to understand players’ health needs and develop nutrition strategies to support these requirements
  • Support coordination of blood work, DXA, RMR testing, and other testing as needed and review the data with players individually and confidentially as appropriate
  • Interpret and integrate data such as from DXA, biometrics, RMR testing, and GPS into nutrition plans and recommendations. Develop menus to address specific training, performance, and recovery needs both at home and on the road
  • Collaborate with food service providers both at home and on the road to develop and execute meals and menus to support player health and performance within the context of periodization and scheduling needs
  • Plan and deliver an effective performance nutrition experience for players on game days, including providing the foods and beverages needed to support player needs and preferences for performance at the optimal times
  • Provide applicable pre- and post-training nutrition support, such as functional pre-activity drinks
  • Create and deliver education to the team via presentations and other materials to support their knowledge and self-efficacy around optimal performance nutrition for elite female soccer players
  • Adapt nutritional plans based on performance and health data, to support injuries if incurred, and to player’s own goals to consistently deliver the most accurate and relevant nutrition support
  • Keep accurate and up to date notes on player nutrition care by charting in the team’s medical records system 
  • In collaboration with Operations, plan effective nutrition provision scheduling for team travel such as for pre-season travel and games on the road
  • Be a steward of the team’s positive food and nutrition culture and mindset that supports healthy relationships with food, player confidence in executing on their own nutrition across the season, and achieving proper fueling for elite soccer demands
  • Assess and track team-wide dietary restrictions and allergies, ensure foods and menus provided at home and on the road meet all needs
  • Handle all aspects of the supplement program, including identifying third party certified supplements appropriate to provide to athletes, recommending supplements as needed to players across the season as needs change, keeping inventory of supplements, stocking supplements for easy use at home, planning for and providing supplements on the road, and ordering supplements in line with budgetary expectations
  • Stay up to date on developments in nutrition and performance nutrition science to offer best possible care, recommendations and education to the team
  • Be willing and able to offer support to other departments as needed to ensure the best services and environment are available for team and player success
 
What do you need to succeed? 
  • Registered Dietitian credential, ability to become licensed in Missouri upon hire
  • Certified Specialist in Sports Dietetics (CSSD) highly preferred
  • Bachelor’s or advanced degree in Nutrition, Dietetics, or other related field
  • 5 – 7 years of nutrition experience with emphasis on sports nutrition
  • Experience working with professional athletes, ideally including experience with female athletes
  • Ability to function in and adapt to a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, customer service skills

 Special requirements of the Job: 
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule, inclusive of weekends, nights (event evenings & overnight operation shifts) and holidays.
  • Ability to monitor company communications and respond to time-sensitive matters with senior executives. 
  • Must be able to stand, walk, and move around the venue for extended periods of time, often during events or facility setup and breakdown.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds as needed for event setup, equipment management, or assisting with operational needs.
  • Requires occasional bending, squatting, and reaching overhead to handle various tasks related to facility management, equipment, and event preparation.
  • Must be capable of working in physically demanding environments, including navigating stairs, ramps, and elevated platforms during venue conversions.
  • Ability to work outdoors continuously for extended periods of time in all weather conditions
