Who are we hiring?
Reporting to the Senior Vice President, Commercial we are seeking a dynamic, entrepreneurial and revenue-minded Director, Event Programming responsible for public event programming at our new Riverfront District and CPKC Stadium. This position will work in conjunction with internal departments to create and sell new business opportunities.
The Director, Event Programming will contribute to the strategic planning and execution of department goals and initiatives. This includes developing new business opportunities to make Riverfront District and CPKC Stadium a destination for all non-KC Current special events.
What will you do?
- Lead a team that develops, markets, and sells public events that utilize the Riverfront District and CPKC Stadium
- Design and execute self-operated public events that drive revenue, brand affinity, and traffic to the Riverfront
- Negotiate and win business from promotors of third-party events for the purpose of maximizing revenues and minimizing expenses
- Implement a marketing and sales strategy to identify and attract revenue generating activities to both venues
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with the local events industry
- Build relationships with the convention and visitors’ bureau, destination management companies, other venues, and vendors
- Network and attend industry events and conferences to source business
- Establish processes and maintain fiscal responsibility in line with organizational and departmental goals, to include:
- Establish competitive rates and pricing packages for space and services provided at both venues and ensure P&L statements are maintained accurately
- Assign event sales leads and track sales opportunities in CRM
- Assist in development of department revenue and expense budgets through research, tracking expenses, analyzing trends, and drafting projections
- Analyze event performance(s) and prepare metrics presentation
- Other duties as assigned
What do you need to succeed?
- Bachelor’s Degree (or equivalent experience) in Business, Marketing, or Hospitality a plus
- Minimum of 10 years of related business experience
- Minimum of 5 years of event revenue experience
- Hospitality/Entertainment and Corporate/B2B sales background preferred
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
- Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

Special requirements of the Job:
- Must be able to work a flexible schedule, inclusive of weekends, nights (event evenings & overnight operation shifts) and holidays
- Ability to monitor company communications and respond to time-sensitive matters with senior executives
- Must be able to stand, walk, and move around the venue for extended periods of time, often during events or facility setup and breakdown
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds as needed for event setup, equipment management, or assisting with operational needs
- Requires occasional bending, squatting, and reaching overhead to handle various tasks related to facility management, equipment, and event preparation
- Must be capable of working in physically demanding environments, including navigating stairs, ramps, and elevated platforms during venue conversions
- Ability to work outdoors continuously for extended periods of time in all weather conditions
