The Houston Dynamo Football Club (HDFC) is a multi-faceted organization dedicated to inspiring and supporting soccer participation and growth in Houston, TX and beyond. The Club’s brands include men's and women's professional teams - the Houston Dynamo (MLS) and Houston Dash (NWSL), a development academy, Houston Dynamo Dash Charities, as well as Shell Energy Stadium and Houston Sports Park.
The Club has a rich history, including MLS Cup titles (2006, 2007) and in-season tournament championships for both the Dynamo (2018) (2023) and Dash (2020) and is focused on building toward the next championships, inspiring and uniting the city of Houston through the sport of soccer and community outreach, and creating the most inclusive sporting experience and diverse fan base in the city and state.
PURPOSE OF THE JOB
Houston Dash is seeking an experienced Goalkeeper & Set Piece Coach with demonstrated expertise in training, developing, and preparing elite-level goalkeepers and leading both attacking and defensive set-piece strategies. The Coach will support the Head Coach and Technical Staff across all matches, tournaments, training sessions, and team activities while contributing to the overall playing philosophy of the Dash.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Training & Development – Goalkeepers
- Design, prepare, and deliver high-quality, position-specific training sessions focused on technical, tactical, physical, and psychological aspects of goalkeeping.
- Develop and maintain Individual Development Plans (IDPs) for each goalkeeper, setting clear objectives and monitoring progress over time.
- Integrate goalkeeper training with broader team tactical concepts, ensuring alignment with the Dash playing philosophy and game model.
- Conduct small group and 1-on-1 film review sessions, including training clips and match analysis.
- Support the training environment through session setup, progression management, transitions, and teaching moments.
Match Preparation & Analysis – Goalkeeping & Set Pieces
- Collaborate with the Head Coach, Assistant Coaches, and analysts to plan and prepare goalkeepers for match demands.
- Analyze goalkeeper match performances, providing constructive feedback and identifying areas for improvement.
- Develop and implement set-piece strategies (attacking and defensive), including goalkeeper positioning, unit organization, and opposition analysis.
- Deliver detailed pre- and post-match reports using video, data, and performance metrics.
- Utilize performance analysis tools (e.g., Sportscode) to support decision-making and individual development.
Set Piece Strategy & Delivery
- Lead the design and execution of all set-piece phases: corners, free kicks, wide restarts, attacking/defensive restarts, and transitional dead-ball scenarios.
- Coordinate with the broader staff to integrate set-piece plans into team training.
- Conduct video reviews and meetings focused on set-piece roles, schemes, and execution standards.
- Track set-piece trends across the league and identify opportunities for competitive advantage.
Collaboration & Communication
- Work closely with the Head Coach, Assistant Coaches, sports scientists, analysts, and medical staff to ensure a holistic approach to goalkeeper development and player wellness.
- Maintain strong communication with goalkeepers to provide mentorship, guidance, and ongoing support.
- Contribute to alignment across the Technical Staff on playing philosophy and individual goals.
- Participate in continuous professional development to stay current with modern methodologies and technologies in goalkeeping and set-piece design.
Recruitment & Talent Pathways
- Support scouting and recruitment processes for goalkeepers at the professional, collegiate, and international levels.
- Assist in identifying talent within internal player pathways and making informed recommendations regarding signings, retention, and development needs.
- Monitor progress of loaned players or external prospects as applicable.
Performance Evaluation & Feedback
- Conduct comprehensive evaluations of goalkeepers’ technical and tactical abilities.
- Break down complex concepts into actionable drills and coaching interventions.
- Provide real-time, constructive feedback during sessions that focuses on both strengths and growth areas.
- Track progress over time using data, video, and session documentation.
Compliance & Administration
- Maintain up-to-date evaluations, training plans, and progress notes for use by the Head Coach and Technical Staff.
- Abide by all applicable local, state, and federal laws, National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) policies, and Club guidelines.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Club.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience
- Must HOLD a C-License upon appointment and a USSF GK-1 License (pending USSF launch)
- Experience working in elite soccer at the national team, professional, and/or collegiate levels.
- Professional & international playing experience preferred.
- Experience, familiarity, and network within international soccer preferred.
- Must be able to work long hours, weekends, and some holidays – as needed.
- Bachelor’s Degree
- Must have the ability to travel internationally.
- Available to work evenings, weekends, and Holidays
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office, Keynote and Video Analysis tools
