NJ/NY Gotham FC (“Gotham FC” or “the Club”) is a National Women’s Soccer League (“NWSL”) team representing New Jersey and New York. The team plays at Sports Illustrated Stadium in Harrison, NJ. The Role: We are seeking a Senior Director of Finance to lead financial planning, analysis, and operational finance for our National Women’s Soccer League club. This role will serve as a strategic partner to leadership across the organization, translating financial data into actionable insights that support smarter decision-making and long-term growth.

The Senior Director of Finance will oversee the club’s FP&A function and monthly financial reporting, while partnering closely with the accounting team to ensure a timely and accurate close. Beyond reporting, this role is expected to build scalable financial processes, develop operational dashboards, and proactively surface insights that guide strategic and day-to-day decisions across the organization.

This position reports directly to the CFO, with a dotted-line relationship to the COO, reflecting the role’s close collaboration with operational leadership.

Key Responsibilities: 
Financial Planning & Analysis
  • Lead the annual budgeting process, quarterly forecasts, and long-range planning.
  • Prepare monthly financial performance analyses, including variance analysis against budget and forecast.
  • Develop financial models to evaluate key initiatives, including ticketing strategies, sponsorship opportunities, staffing decisions, and capital investments.
  • Produce executive reporting packages for senior leadership and ownership.
  • Conduct ad hoc analysis to support strategic decision-making across the club.

Strategic Business Partnership
  • Partner with department leaders across operations, marketing, ticketing, sponsorship, and soccer operations to translate financial insights into business decisions.
  • Build financial frameworks that help teams evaluate ROI on initiatives and investments.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to leadership by identifying opportunities to improve profitability, efficiency, and resource allocation.

Financial Reporting & Accounting Oversight
  • Oversee the monthly close process in collaboration with accounting to ensure timely and accurate financial reporting.
  • Review financial statements and supporting schedules to ensure integrity and consistency.
  • Partner with accounting to improve reporting processes, controls, and documentation.

Systems, Processes & Data Infrastructure
  • Design and implement financial dashboards and reporting tools that provide visibility into key performance metrics.
  • Build scalable processes for budgeting, forecasting, and performance tracking.
  • Improve data integration between operational systems (ticketing, CRM, sponsorship platforms) and financial reporting.

Operational Finance Leadership
  • Develop KPI frameworks that track the drivers of the club’s economic performance.
  • Provide leadership with clear visibility into trends, risks, and opportunities.
  • Establish processes that empower departments to operate with data-driven decision-making.

Qualifications
  • 8–12+ years of experience in finance, FP&A, or strategic finance roles.
  • Experience building financial models and translating data into strategic insights.
  • Strong understanding of financial reporting and accounting principles.
  • Demonstrated ability to partner cross-functionally with operational leaders.
  • Experience improving financial systems, reporting infrastructure, or business processes.
  • Advanced Excel / financial modeling skills required; experience with BI tools preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or related field (MBA or CPA a plus).

Preferred Experience
  • Experience in sports, media, entertainment, or live events organizations.
  • Background in high-growth or operationally complex businesses.
  • Experience working with ticketing, sponsorship, or venue revenue models.

Location: 
Based at Gotham FC’s business office, which is located at 15 Exchange Place Jersey City, New Jersey, on a hybrid working schedule which consists of three core in-office/in-person days (Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday) and two non-core days (Monday and Friday), with the option of being in the business office or remote. Ability to attend all home games and any mandatory events as well as away games, as necessary.  A willingness to travel for other business-related needs, as they arise.Gotham FC requires its associates to live in its market, that is, within reasonable commuting distance of Gotham FC’s offices, practice facility and Sports Illustrated Stadium.
