NJ/NY Gotham FC (“Gotham FC” or “the Club”) is a National Women’s Soccer League (“NWSL”) team representing New Jersey and New York. The team plays at Sports Illustrated Stadium in Harrison, NJ. The Role:
We are seeking a dynamic and versatile individual to fill the role of Performance Chef. This position requires exceptional culinary skills to provide comprehensive nutrition and fueling solutions for athletes and individuals aiming to optimize their performance. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of sports nutrition, coupled with culinary creativity to design and prepare meals that align with performance goals.

Key Responsibilities:

Culinary Planning, Execution, & Meal Service
  • Collaborate with team Sports Nutritionist and Performance and Medical department to create balanced and nutrient-dense menus tailored to the dietary requirements of athletes and clients.
  • Design and prepare meals that meet specific nutritional goals, considering taste preferences and dietary restrictions.
  • Oversee the preparation and presentation of meals, ensuring high-quality standards and adherence to nutritional guidelines.
  • Implement efficient cooking techniques and maintain consistency in meal preparation and food safety.

Collaboration with Performance Team:
  • Work closely with the team nutritionist, performance team, coaches, and other performance specialists to integrate nutrition and culinary strategies into comprehensive performance plans including collaboration with hotels for away games.
  • Utilize feedback from athletes and monitoring tools to assess the impact of nutrition and culinary interventions on performance.
  • Adjust meal plans and recipes based on individual progress, preferences, and evolving goals.

Food Safety, Sanitation, & Standards
  • Ensure all food safety protocols, health codes, and cleanliness standards are consistently met or exceeded.
  • Maintain a tidy and welcoming kitchen and meal room environment at all times — organized, clean, and inspection-ready.
  • Monitor and confirm timely delivery, storage, and rotation of all food and supply items.
  • Develop kitchen SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures) to maintain consistency, safety, and efficiency.

Procurement, Inventory, & Vendor Relations
  • Manage ordering, receiving, and inventory of food and supplies in alignment with weekly menu plans and operational needs.
  • Maintain strong, professional relationships with vendors and purveyors, ensuring the highest quality products and reliable service.
  • Maintain accurate inventory records and implement efficient systems for tracking usage, waste, and replenishment.

Administrative & Budget Responsibilities
  • Complete and reconcile all credit card (CC) receipts and expense reports in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Work in collaboration with the Operations and finance teams to manage, forecast, and reconcile the department budget.
  • Ensure all purchasing decisions align with approved budgets and cost-control guidelines.
  • Track and report expenses, ensuring financial accountability and transparency.
  • Support ongoing efforts to streamline administrative systems and improve operational efficiency.

Operational Oversight
  • Supervise daily operations at assigned facilities, including kitchen organization, staff coordination, and production timelines.
  • Monitor and confirm timely delivery, storage, and rotation of all food and supply items.

Qualifications:
  • Proven experience in culinary arts and meal preparation for athletes or high-performance individuals.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Knowledge of sports nutrition, dietary supplements, and the ability to translate nutritional science into practical culinary solutions.

  • As this is an exempt position, willingness and ability to work long hours, including weekends and evenings.

Location: 
This position is fully in-person, based at Gotham FC’s soccer operations office and practice facility, located in Whippany, New Jersey. Ability to attend all home games and any mandatory events as well as away games, as necessary.  A willingness to travel for other business-related needs, as they arise. Ability to work at the team’s business operations office in Jersey City, New Jersey, as needed. Gotham FC requires its associates to live in its market, that is, within reasonable commuting distance of Gotham FC’s offices, practice facility and Sports Illustrated Stadium.
