Job Overview  
The Physical Performance Coach assists the Head of High Performance in ensuring that athletes achieve an optimal level of performance by applying sports science knowledge to improve a Player’s performance and prevent injuries. The Physical Performance Coach will report to the Director of Medical and Performance and work in close alignment with the Head of High Performance. Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following: assist in conducting soccer-specific physical testing and on-field team warm-ups, design and implement strength and conditioning programs, assist in recovery protocols, provide general nutritional guidance in collaboration with the Registered Dietician, and support with the  Head of High Performance.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities 
  • Work in close collaboration with the medical and performance departments to help optimize player performance, player experience, and efficiency of the team 
  • Assist with on-field training, conditioning, and end-stage return-to-play sessions for players.  
  • Assist with the delivery of gym-based strength and conditioning for players.  
  • Educate and counsel Players regarding strategies to improve performance.  
  • Facilitate the collection of sports science data collection and GPS monitoring under the direction of the Head of High Performance 
  • Evaluate Player performance through performance testing, including workload monitoring and body composition testing, with input from Team Medical Staff including Team Physician(s) and Registered Dietician.  
  • Collaborate with the Athletic Trainers and Physical Therapist(s) regarding injured, rehabilitating, and deconditioned Players to modify training programs with agreement from Team Medical Staff. 
  • Work in collaboration with the Team Medical Staff  
  • Design and implement safe and effective strength and conditioning programs for NWSL (National Women's Soccer League) players.  
  • Lead and supervise sports performance training sessions when needed under the direction of the Head of High Performance   
  • Assist in the design of the daily, weekly, and monthly training plans and periodization strategies. 
  • Maintain the appearance, safety, functionality, and organization of equipment in the weight facility and educate and enforce weight room rules.  
  • Demonstrate high-level interpersonal skills, listening and emotional intelligence required to work effectively with Players, Team Medical Staff, Coaches, other Team personnel and League staff. 
  • Travel expectations will depend on the needs of the group 
  • Uphold high personal standards and work to elevate the high-performance department 
Licenses or Certifications  
  • Required: Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) 
  • Preferred: Certified Performance and Sports Scientist (CPSS) certification  
  • CPR certification in Basic Life Support  
  • Additional recommended certifications: Corrective Exercise Specializations (NASM-CES), and/or Performance Enhancement Specialist (NASM-PES) 
Educational Experience  
  • Minimum four (4) year college/university bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science, Kinesiology, Physical Education, or related field  
  • Preferred: Master’s Degree in Exercise Science, Kinesiology, Physical Education, or related field 
Work Experience
  • Extensive knowledge and experience in the implementation of strength and conditioning programming for elite athletes  
  • Soccer experience preferred  
  • Proven ability in sports science and analytics  
  • Experience working with GPS and other monitoring systems  
  • Experience handling and analyzing performance data
