Minnesota United FC (MNUFC) is a professional soccer club competing in Major League Soccer (MLS), the top tier of soccer in North America. As a club driven by passion and community, we operate under the oversight of the U.S. Soccer Federation, a member of FIFA. Our headquarters are in Golden Valley, MN, with soccer operations based at the MNUFC Training Center in Blaine. On matchdays, we call Allianz Field in St. Paul home—one of the premier soccer-specific stadiums in the country.




Position:

The Senior Vice President of Finance serves as the leader of the Finance Department for Minnesota United FC (MNUFC), a professional sports organization based in the Twin Cities and a member of Major League Soccer (MLS).

 

Reporting directly to the Executive Vice President, Chief Financial Officer/Chief Administrative Officer (“EVP, CFO/CAO”), the SVP of Finance serves as the senior leader of the Finance function and a strategic financial partner across all Club departments. This role leads financial planning & analysis, accounting, treasury, payroll, compliance, and financial decision support for the organization.

 

Position Summary:

The Senior Vice President, Finance will oversee all finance and accounting responsibilities for MNUFC. In this position, you will directly manage the finance, accounting and payroll teams to ensure that business is operating effectively, supported by data driven decision-making and sound financial and operating controls. This position requires collaboration and cross-functional teamwork across all aspects of the Club.

 

Executive Finance Leadership

  • Lead and develop the Finance Department, including FP&A, Accounting, Payroll, and Accounts Payable functions
  • Serve as a strategic thought partner to the EVP, CFO/CAO and executive leadership team
  • Provide financial evaluation, strategic analysis, and decision support for major Club initiatives, business opportunities, contractual matters, and capital investments
  • Participate in cross-functional leadership meetings to assess financial implications of business strategies

Financial Planning & Analysis

  • Oversee the annual operating and capital budget process, mid-year forecasts, and long-range planning
  • Review departmental financial analyses and quarterly business reviews to ensure accuracy, clarity, and alignment with organizational objectives
  • Ensure timely, accurate, and actionable financial reporting to executive leadership
  • Oversee league reporting requirements and financial submissions
  • Oversee financial management and reconciliation of special events, third-party matches, and other non-league Club activities

Accounting, Compliance & Technical Oversight

  • Oversee all accounting operations, including but not limited to complex technical areas such as player accounting, lease accounting, and debt accounting
  • Ensure financial reporting is prepared in accordance with GAAP and applicable league and banking requirements
  • Oversee annual external audit process and manage relationships with auditors and tax advisors
  • Develop and maintain strong internal controls and financial policies
  • Serve as subject matter expert on financial and accounting matters

Treasury & Capital Strategy

  • Lead cash forecasting and liquidity planning
  • Support the EVP, CFO/CAO in managing banking relationships and credit facility compliance
  • Oversee quarterly bank covenant reporting
  • Support financing initiatives and capital structuring efforts, including financial modeling and analysis

Strategic Modeling & Business Partnership

  • Partner closely with department leaders to understand business operations and support achievement of financial goals
  • Develop financial models to evaluate new revenue opportunities, investments, and strategic initiatives
  • Provide scenario analysis and ROI modeling to support executive decision-making
  • Contribute to long-term strategic planning and business growth initiatives
  • Promote financial literacy and partnership across departments

Leadership & Culture

  • Provide mentorship, coaching, and performance development to finance team members
  • Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement
  • Implement process improvements to enhance reporting efficiency and decision support
  • Design and enhance financial systems and processes to support business growth and operational scalability

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or related discipline required
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) required
  • 10+ years of progressive finance and accounting leadership experience
  • Experience overseeing both accounting and financial planning & analysis functions
  • Experience managing treasury and cash forecasting preferred
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and complex accounting matters
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience in professional sports or multi-entity environments preferred
  • Public accounting and/or previous experience as a Controller background preferred
  • Experience leading or supporting financial system implementations or ERP transitions preferred

 

Compensation & Benefits: 

Minnesota United FC values the contributions of our team members and is committed to transparency in our compensation practices. The compensation range for this full-time role is $175,000 - $200,000 annually, with the final offer based on experience and qualifications.
