The Electrician is responsible for supporting the safe, reliable, and code-compliant operation of all electrical systems across Sporting Kansas City stadium and training facilities. This role plays a critical part in daily facility operations, matchday execution, broadcast readiness, and live event support, including MLS matches, international competitions, concerts, and private events. The Electrician works collaboratively with Facilities, Stadium Operations, Event Operations, Broadcast, and external partners to deliver a seamless experience for fans, staff, performers, and partners.
Essential Functions
- Install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair electrical systems throughout the stadium and associated facilities, including:
- Field and grow lighting systems
- Concourse, bowl, suite, architectural, and emergency lighting
- Power distribution panels, transformers, switchgear, and control systems
- Emergency power systems, generators, and UPS equipment
- Install, maintain, and troubleshoot low-voltage systems including access control, CCTV, fire alarm support wiring, AV controls, DAS, and network-connected devices throughout the stadium and associated facilities.
- Support MLS matchday operations, including:
- Field lighting inspections, testing, and adjustments
- Electrical support for VAR, broadcast trucks, control rooms, and league technology
- Rapid response to electrical issues during live matches and events
- Provide electrical support for:
- International matches, tournaments, and friendlies
- Concerts and large-scale live events
- Broadcast and production power setups
- Data Cable Management
- Install, terminate, test, and maintain data cabling (Cat5e, Cat6, Cat6A, and fiber) supporting stadium systems including CCTV, access control, Wi-Fi, DAS, AV, and operational networks.
- Troubleshoot data and PoE connectivity issues in live event environments, coordinating with IT, Security, and Operations to quickly restore service and minimize disruption.
- Perform preventative maintenance to ensure electrical system reliability, safety, and longevity
- Assist with temporary power installations for events, staging, production, and broadcast compounds
- Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and electrical drawings
- Ensure all work complies with local, state, and national electrical codes, MLS operational standards, and safety regulations
- Coordinate closely with Facilities, Grounds, IT, Broadcast, Event Operations, and third-party vendors
- Maintain accurate service logs, maintenance records, and preventative maintenance documentation
- Follow all safety procedures, including OSHA regulations, lockout/tagout, and confined space protocols
Required Qualifications
- Journeyman or Master Electrician license (as required by local and state regulations)
- BICSI certification preferred; experience with structured cabling standards and best practices.
- 3–5+ years of commercial or industrial electrical experience
- Strong troubleshooting skills in fast-paced, live-event or mission-critical environments
- Ability to work non-traditional hours, including nights, weekends, holidays, and matchdays
- Comfortable working at heights, in confined spaces, outdoors, and in varying weather conditions
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and stand or walk for extended periods
- Strong attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and commitment to safety
- Effective communication skills and ability to work collaboratively across teams
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working in stadiums, arenas, professional sports venues, or large event facilities
- Familiarity with MLS, professional soccer, or broadcast-driven environments
- Experience with:
- Backup generators and emergency power systems
- Event production and temporary power distribution
- High-output sports lighting systems
- Ability to work independently while contributing effectively as part of a team
Work Environment & Schedule
- Non-traditional schedule required, including: Matchdays, nights, weekends, and holidays
- Combination of indoor and outdoor work across a large campus in all weather conditions
