The Assistant Coach, Sporting Kansas City II (MLS NEXT Pro) is responsible for supporting the Head Coach in all aspects of team preparation, training, and match performance, with a primary focus on individual player development and progression. This role plays a vital part in the Club’s player pathway, ensuring that young players are developed, challenged, and prepared to transition successfully between Academy, SKC II, and the First Team. The Assistant Coach contributes to the creation of a professional, learning-centered environment where daily standards, behaviors, and training practices align with Sporting Kansas City’s playing philosophy and development framework.

Essential Functions
  • ·Support the Head Coach in planning, delivering, and evaluating all on-field training sessions and match preparations in alignment with the club’s playing model.
  •  Lead and implement individual development plans (IDPs) for players, ensuring ongoing assessment, feedback, and progress tracking in collaboration with the Head Coach, First Team and Academy coaching staff.
  •  Assist in match preparation and analysis, including opposition scouting and tactical meetings.
  • Provide active on-field coaching in both team and individual contexts, helping players understand positional roles and tactical principles.
  • Support player transition processes between the Academy, SKC II, and First Team by maintaining strong communication and shared performance data.
  • Collaborate closely with the Academy coaching staff to align methodologies, session design, and player development objectives.
  • Conduct post-match reviews with staff and players, highlighting learning moments and development actions.
  • Contribute to talent identification and provide input on recruitment and player assessments within the developmental pathway.
  • Engage in video analysis and review sessions to reinforce key tactical and individual learning objectives.
  •  Help cultivate a positive, demanding, and educational training environment where accountability, professionalism, and player learning are prioritized.
  • Participate in staff meetings and interdisciplinary collaboration with performance, medical, and analysis departments to ensure holistic support for players.
  •  Represent the Club’s values and culture, acting as a role model for young professionals both on and off the field.

Qualifications & Experience
  •  Minimum of a high school diploma or G.E.D. requirement; bachelor's degree preferred.
  •  USSF A or B License (or equivalent UEFA qualification) preferred.
  • Minimum of five (5) years’ coaching experience, ideally within a professional club or elite development environment.
  • Proven experience working with young professional or Academy-aged players in a developmental or pathway-focused role.
  • Experience with video analysis and performance analytics. 
  • Comprehensive understanding of player development strategies, long-term athlete development principles, and age-appropriate coaching methods.
  •  Bilingual or multilingual ability preferred; English fluency required.
  • Availability to work evenings, weekends, and travel as required.

Physical & Working Conditions 
  • Based primarily at the Club’s training facility and stadium, with regular travel for matches and events. 
  •  Work involves both on-field coaching and office-based planning environments. 
  •  Ability to sit, stand, walk, run, bend, stoop, push and pull as required. 
  •  Must be able to lift and carry up to 100 pounds occasionally. 
  • Ability to work in both indoor and outdoor environments under varying weather conditions. 
  • Travel and irregular hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays are required. 
  • Must maintain professionalism and emotional control in demanding or high-pressure situations.
