Position Summary

The Portland Timbers are seeking a talented and motivated Photography Intern to assist in capturing dynamic imagery that tells the story of the club, its players, and the passionate Timbers community. This internship offers hands-on experience in sports photography, including matchday coverage, training sessions, community events, and behind-the-scenes storytelling.

The ideal candidate has a strong eye for composition, a passion for visual storytelling, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment. They will work closely with the Sr. Director of Photography & Creative Operations and the broader creative team to develop compelling imagery for digital, social, and marketing use.

Compensation: $20 per hour. 

Hours/Schedule: This is a variable hour position. Average hours will be 25-30 hours per week. Working some evenings and weekends/holidays will be required (due to match day/event responsibilities). Expected duration is through the MLS season or as long as there is a business need. 
 

Responsibilities

  • Assist in photographing Timbers home matches, training sessions, community events, second team and academy home matches and other club initiatives.
  • Edit and organize photos for social media, marketing, and internal use under tight deadlines.
  • Maintain and archive images following team standards and workflows.
  • Support in-studio and on-location shoots for player portraits, sponsorship activations, and brand campaigns.
  • Coordinate with the creative team to ensure visual consistency across all platforms.
  • Assist in managing photography equipment and preparing for shoots.
  • Stay current on photography trends and best practices in sports media.
Qualifications

  • Working towards or recently completed a degree in photography, visual arts, journalism, or a related field.
  • Strong portfolio showcasing sports, action, or event photography.
  • Proficiency in Capture One, Photoshop, and basic photo editing workflows.
  • Experience shooting with professional camera equipment (Canon, etc.).
  • Ability to work nights, weekends, and non-traditional hours as required by the Timbers’ schedule.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Knowledge of Major League Soccer (MLS) and an understanding of the Timbers’ brand is a plus.
  • Spanish Speaking is a plus.
