Awarded Major League Soccer’s 16th franchise in 2008, the Philadelphia Union officially took the pitch in 2010 and have been raising expectations ever since. ABOUT THE ROLE
The Part-Time Groundskeeper, under the supervision of the Sports Turf Manager and Grounds Manager, assists in maintaining the playing surfaces and surrounding grounds across the Philadelphia Union campus, including Subaru Park and the WSFS Bank Sportsplex. This role supports the preparation and upkeep of professional and youth soccer fields, landscaped areas, and matchday environments. The position is fast-paced and hands-on, requiring attention to detail, reliability, and the ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Mowing, trimming, weeding, and general maintenance of lawns, flower beds, and high-visibility areas across campus.
- Assist in the preparation and maintenance of natural grass playing surfaces, including field painting, lining, divot repair, and turf care.
- Set up and tear down match-related equipment at Subaru Park and the WSFS Bank Sportsplex.
- Assist with field preparation for matches, training sessions, tournaments, and special events.
- Operate hand tools and powered equipment safely and effectively.
- Operate various turf and landscape maintenance equipment including mowers, trimmers, blowers, and utility vehicles.
- Assist with general groundskeeping tasks including debris removal, edging, and landscape upkeep.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Working knowledge of basic landscaping and grounds maintenance procedures, including the safe use of equipment.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision at times.
- Strong work ethic, reliability, time management, organization, and communication skills.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation required.
- Availability to work flexible hours including nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.
- Previous experience in sports turf, landscaping, groundskeeping, or athletics field maintenance preferred but not required.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to perform physically demanding tasks including lifting up to 50 pounds, climbing stairs and ladders, and walking or standing for extended periods.
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions including heat, cold, rain, and wind.
- Ability to work in active stadium or event environments that may include noise, crowds, and moving equipment.
Work Environment
- Work will primarily take place outdoors across the Philadelphia Union campus, including Subaru Park and the WSFS Bank Sportsplex.
- The role may require early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays based on match schedules and field preparation needs.
