Player Operations: Coach - Elite Athlete Coach
The New York Red Bulls are one of 27 teams in Major League Soccer (MLS). RBNY, one of the ten charter clubs of MLS, have competed in the league since its founding in 1996. The Red Bulls play home matches at Red Bull Arena (RBA) in Harrison, New Jersey. The three-time MLS Supporters' Shield Winners are owned by the Austrian beverage company Red Bull for which the team is named. The New York Red Bulls offer one of the nation's premier youth soccer development programs, from local soccer partnerships across New York and New Jersey to Regional Development Schools and the Red Bulls Academy teams.

  • Coach and develop New York Red Bulls Goalkeepers in the NYRB playing philosophy
  • Be an ambassador of the NYRB culture and philosophy
  • Liaise with fellow NYRB Goalkeeper coaches to ensure continuity of player development from the Academy all the way through to the 1st Team.

  • Our Training Facility is located in Whippany, New Jersey.
  • You will be expected to travel as it is deemed necessary to fulfil your job requirements.

  • A minimum of 40 hours per week.
  • Flexibility in this role is essential; we’re looking for someone with the ability to work irregular and unsocial hours as required. Work may be subject to change with less than 24 hours’ notice.
  • Work will regularly be outside ‘normal’ working hours, in evenings, weekends and holidays.
  • Attendance may be required at consultant appointments/special events/dinners/tournaments.
  • All time off is to be taken during breaks in the soccer season.

  • Lead Goalkeeper (GK) training and support sessions as part of a coordinated training strategy
  • Create a Goalkeeper-specific training and performance plan that is aligned with the Club’s philosophy
  • Implement development plans and communicate with a multi-disciplinary perspective to support the holistic development of Red Bull Goalkeepers
  •  Administration of player performance data
  • Conduct meetings with Goalkeepers during pre-season to discuss and align on their respective development plans
  • Schedule monthly progress meetings with each player, reference and edit their plans based on performance
  • Work with the Head Coach to identify objectives to include in team presentations prior to every game
  • Complete post-game reports including video clips focusing on objectives and overall performance of Goalkeepers to present on a weekly basis
  • Participate in discussions of Goalkeepers to be retained and released at the end of their contracts or when deemed appropriate
  • Support the talent identification & recruitment strategy for Goalkeepers
  • Support and develop Coaches as part of a wider strategy both internally and externally
  • Responsibility for the welfare of players
  • Additional tasks/duties as assigned 

  • Work towards designated targets for personal development and departmental progression (via Asana).
  • Highlight areas for development and allow us to support your work towards these objectives wherever possible.
  • Take responsibility for your own continued professional development, ensuring that you attend regular courses/conferences and keeping an up to date portfolio of achievements.
  • Where required, complete the mandatory qualifications and relevant requirements as required by associated governing bodies.
  • Ensure knowledge in relation to all aspect of Goalkeeper coaching and coach development is up to date and forward thinking.
  • Build relationships throughout the Academy & broader Club community.
  • Maintain/enhance soccer and cross-sport coaching competence.

The individual must possess the following knowledge, skills and abilities and be able to explain and demonstrate that he or she can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities.
  • The ability to speak and write English is required; Spanish is a PLUS!

  • USSF “A” License or UEFA equivalent required

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in the elite sports setting
  • Evidence of player development from youth and/or USL levels to MLS level
  • Experience of working within a multi-disciplinary team in a professional sporting environment
  • An understanding of working in the soccer environment
  • Experience of developing and implementing innovative ideas and putting them into practice
