Role Overview
The Ticket Sales Director is responsible for leading the Ticket Sales department and delivering revenue, expense, and profit targets across a portfolio of sports and entertainment events.
This role oversees a team of Account Executives and operates as a player-coach, carrying individual sales goals while developing talent, building scalable sales systems, and ensuring individual performance ladders up to departmental and company objectives.
This role is accountable for revenue growth, team development, and a seamless ticketing experience from sale through event execution.
Key Responsibilities
Department Leadership & Financial Performance
- Own and deliver the Ticket Sales department’s annual revenue, expense, and profit targets
- Develop and manage departmental budgets, forecasts, and performance plans
- Monitor performance against goals and adjust strategy to ensure results are achieved
- Provide regular reporting and insights to executive leadership
Sales Strategy & Execution
- Develop and execute sales strategies across all ticket products, including season tickets, group sales, premium experiences, and special events
- Establish clear sales processes, activity standards, and performance metrics
- Analyze sales data and customer trends to identify growth opportunities
- Drive consistent execution while continuously improving efficiency and effectiveness
Active Sales Leadership & Account Ownership
- Carry a defined individual sales goal aligned with departmental objectives
- Maintain a personal book of business focused on strategic, high-value, or complex accounts
- Establish clear criteria for account ownership, determining when accounts are retained by the VP versus assigned to Account Executives
- Support Account Executives on major pitches, negotiations, and renewals
- Model best-in-class sales behaviors and customer engagement
Team Leadership & Talent Development
- Recruit, onboard, train, and develop Account Executives
- Set clear individual goals that ladder up to departmental and company targets
- Provide ongoing coaching, mentoring, and performance feedback
- Conduct performance reviews and support professional development planning
- Build a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement
Box Office & Customer Experience Oversight
- Oversee box office and customer support functions, including coordination with external vendors or partners
- Ensure ticketing, service, and issue-resolution processes are efficient, consistent, and customer-focused
- Optimize workflows between ticket sales, box office, customer support, and operations
- Establish service standards that support a seamless internal and external experience
- Continuously evaluate and improve systems and processes across the ticketing lifecycle
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner with Marketing to develop and execute campaigns that drive ticket demand, conversion, and retention
- Collaborate with Sponsorship and Partnerships teams to cross-sell ticket products and maximize client value
- Align with Operations and Event Experience teams to ensure a cohesive fan experience
- Contribute to organization-wide planning, initiatives, and strategic priorities
Game Day & Organizational Leadership
- Work assigned games and events to support sales execution and client experience
- Support key accounts, premium clients, and group leaders on event days
- Represent Ticket Sales leadership internally and externally
- Reinforce departmental standards and organizational culture
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in business, sales, marketing, sports management, or related field preferred
- 5–8+ years of sales experience, with leadership experience required
- Proven ability to deliver revenue targets and manage high-performing sales teams
- Strong financial acumen, including budgeting, forecasting, and performance management
- Excellent leadership, coaching, and communication skills
- Experience in sports, entertainment, or live events strongly preferred
- Willingness to work non-traditional hours, including nights, weekends, and events

Compensation Structure
This role includes:
- Competitive base salary
- Commission earned on ticket sales. Total earnings are performance-based, with upside for high achievers.
