Overview

MLS is seeking a Director who will lead business operations and strategic project management for the MLS Media Team, focusing on both long and short term projects. The Director, Media, will also work closely with the Apple Partnerships team, acting as a day-to-day primary business point of contact for Apple for content and production related matters.

Responsibilities

  • Cross-functional project leadership and management of MLS Media Team initiatives, including but not limited to initiatives relating to content, production, and distribution and projects that impact the broader MLS organization. Responsibilities include:
    • Defining and documenting project scope, objectives, desired outcomes, and short- and long-term goals;
    • Managing internal and external stakeholder expectations;
    • Tracking project progress and providing regular and ad hoc project updates; and
    • Coordinating across departments to ensure timely execution.
  • Analyze current operations of the MLS Media team and lead projects related to process development/implementation/improvement and operational efficiency.
    • Evaluate priorities across the MLS Media department and identify areas for operational improvement to ensure quality and increase efficiency.
    • Review and implement processes related to vendor deal workflow, support the negotiation of key vendor agreements, and work closely with MLS Media department leads to track vendor performance and identify vendor synergies.
  • Create presentation materials for Executive and Board of Governors audiences.
  • Collaborate with the Apple Partnerships team and serve as the day-to-day business contact for Apple for content and production related matters.
  • Additional responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree.
  • MBA or PMP certification is desirable.
  • 8+ years of experience in business operations and/or project management in a sports or media environment.

  • Proven ability to successfully lead project management for complicated initiatives.
  • Strong multitasking and prioritization skills, with the ability to manage multiple assignments simultaneously and meet deadlines.
  • Superior organization and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced team environment and collaborate across departments within the broader organization.
  • Ability to negotiate sensitive matters and work collaboratively to identify solutions.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively communicate, both verbally and in writing.
  • High-level of commitment to a quality work product and organizational ethics, integrity, and compliance.
  • Commitment to building positive team environments and demonstrated experience in leadership situations.
  • Exceptional PowerPoint skills.
  • Proficiency in Excel, Outlook, and Word.
  • Proficiency in project management tools (e.g., Asana).
 
Desired Skills
  • Bilingual preferred (English / Spanish).
  • Knowledge of the sport of soccer and soccer ecosystem.
 
Total Rewards
Starting Base Salary: $115,000 – $150,000. MLS/SUM base salaries are contingent upon several factors including individual qualifications, market financials, and operational business needs.
